I do have another question though. I have a hard time getting my daughter to take pedialyte. She refuses the flavored stuff, will eat the pops occasionally, and instinctivley knows and refuses when I mix the plain stuff in juice, water, or milk! But with the diarrhea she really needs it. Any suggestions on how to slip her the stuff without her knowing? Is there better juices then other's to mix it with? Thanks!
I use desatine. And than the nystatin cream works great too when it becomes fungal, and alot of diaper rashes become fungal over time
As far as pedalyle, I dunno. As long as she is getting water and fruit juice, it should be ok. But I am not sure about fruit juice right now with loose stool. Maybe you can give her v8 splash? or v8 fussion? Those have some electroyltes in them.
I was told to not use wipes when there is any type of irritation on their bums. Use those little baby washcloths with warm water. The wipes just spread around any bacteria and can make a bad problem into a REALLY bad problem.
I've tried every butt cream there is to deal with this but nothing worked. We now use polysporin (not the kids stuff), and it will clear up BLISTERS in a day and a half. The trick is to put a barrier cream on their bums (like vaseline) BEFORE this happens, and it will protect their bums from the bad poop. I'm not a fan of vaseline myself, but when I know he's going to have something with tomatoes in it (spaghetti sauce, zoodles, etc.), I put the vaseline on him that day to avoid the "rash".
Before my son started having these poops around 18 mths. old, he'd NEVER ONCE had a diaper rash. If we are careful what he eats, it doesn't happen...but one slice of pizza, or someone giving him a piece of banana without realizing, is all it takes for his bum to be on fire again.
I do use Aveeno body cream on his bum after baths when the redness goes away, just to get it back to where it's supposed to be.
I hope you find something that works for you.
