My 2 yr old granddaughter has almost stopped taking naps, but when she does, we try to limit it to maybe 30 min. When she goes to bed at night, she sleep ALL night...moving around, but in a solid sleep for at least for about 10 more hours. Some kids just require less.
Also, is she teething? Sometimes lying down then causes the blood to rush to the head and the teething becomes more noticable. She may also be going through separation anxiety and doesn't want to be away from you and she's DEFINITELY hitting the stage (at least by next month) for the terrible two's, but it really begins before two. It's really not so terrible as it's just that time when they learn to assert themselves and it is "Me do it" as they sooo want to exercise their independence. They get frustrated soo easily. I tried to teach mine to express their feelings and ask if they were frustrated so they could articulate how they felt. They want to do it on their own and maybe throwing that pacci away is her way of rejecting whatever you are suggesting as it seems they do that with EVERYTHING you suggest at this point.
Hang in there. This too, shall pass. :-)
GOODLUCK
I have nowhere in her room to sit with her and calm her, and she is still in a crib, so I stand in her room and rock and hum her for about ten minutes. Then as I try and lay her down she likes to latch onto my hair.
She is constantly teething. She only has 7 teeth, and the last month she has gotten 5 of those.
And since I got a job and when I start work is right in the middle of her old naptime, and she will not nap at the babysitters, the days I work she does not nap. Maybe fifteen minutes in the car on the way to the sitters. But I don't notice her getting like this only on the days without naps.
Tonight she lay in her crib and yelled 'mama baaaad, mama nooooo' and it was so hard not to run to her! We are talking about moving her to a toddler bed soon, as she CAN escape her crib, she just doesn't...but there is no way she can be in a toddler bed with the freedom to get up while this is happening.
I have lengthened her bedtime by half an hour, in that half an hour we sit on the couch and snuggle and watch out of the box. Then we go to her room, where I rock her and sing or hum, give her kisses and let her know how much I love her. We do this for around twenty minutes. She can start to doze off in that time. But as soon as I put her in her crib she is screaming like a banshee!
She is also starting to wake up in the middle of the night and scream like that. But taking her to bed with us isn't an option. I don't agree with it, but we have tried it, and she will not go back to sleep with us. She tosses and turns and kicks and talks for hours. So the only option when she wakes up it seems is to let her scream herself back to sleep.
And I do mean scream. All she does now is screech, with the occasional sob. It's getting really hard for me to handle.
