Marlow is 3 and my daughter is very antisocial. She tends to get grumpy when people talk to her and she gets angry when playing in a group and things don't go her way. She shuts down in the face of strangers 9/10
Recentely she has started participating in a local program at the library we take her too. And have been for over a year already. And I couldn't be more thrilled to see her standing up and doing the actions to A-ram-sam-sam with all the other kids instead of sitting on the floor pouting.
But for the past four months she has become extremley affectionate to myself (more so) and her dad.
She will kiss me at least 100 times a day, and anywhere she can reach. She kisses my hand everytime I put her in her carseat, she kisses my butt while I cook! My arm while I'm reading her a book, my cheeks if shes sitting beside me, my foot if she's on the floor playing and I'm on the couch. She hugs me just as much.
Kissing is generally reserved for home, but hugging is everywhere. I noticed she does it when she gets overwhelmed. At the library she will leave the room to hug me at least three times within the half hour-fourty five minute program. If we go to the park she hugs me every ten minutes or so. She hugs me during happy times too, like when she put coins in the Salvation Army bucket and he gave her a candy cane. She was so excited and she had to hug me.
She does it to her dad but he gets irritated by the constant hugging and kissing and I think she can tell so she doesn't do it as much. I'm a little worried about it. It seems excessive. It all started with the hugging when overwhelmed. Then escalated.
Don't get me wrong, I LOVE that she's affectionate, but I'm worried its too much. The other day some little boy teased her because she ran to her mommy for a hug when a few other kids joined their play group. :(

There's really not much else you can do except explain to your daughter that some kids don't understands that hugs are a nice way to show people you care. My daughter is for sure more sensitive than other kids and I just tell her, "it makes you YOU, and I love you".
