I think its normal, maybe have a project or a color page you can let him know you will do together when school is over.
My daughter can be cliny but she doesn't go to school yet. We are starting a mommy and me pre-school for 2 hours this fall, she knows the instructor since we have been doing mommy and me for over 1 1/2 years. I wonder how she will be. She sometimes gets clingy but nothing that I am concern over she usually is over it after about 30 secs.
(oh she is 3)
I sure hope it gets better, I know its must be really hard to leave him but always let him know you love him and will be back.
If you find anything that works let us know....might be in your shoes soon. :(
I eat breakfast with her and then we go. Sometimes she won't even get her shoes on since she knows where we are going. When I do get us in the car, she seems fine. Once we get to the sitter, many times, she becomes so clingy and when they try to take her, she cries. It breaks my heart and I take her back - I know I shouldn't but I feel so bad. I know she will be fine once I leave and the sitters have often called me to tell me that she was fine shortly after I left.
DD is an only child too and will probably always be one and she is with mommy most of the time even when daddy is home. (My DH is someone who cannot sit still and is always working on a "project" around the house). Most of the time she won't even let him hold her.
Sorry to babble, but I was just about to post this topic as well. I also notice that my DD does not socialize with the other kids at the sitter very well. They tell me that she is quiet most of the time. She sucks her thumb and twirls her hair for comfort, so I am sure that is why she is quiet. Maybe she senses how worried about her I am. Ugh...
I wish I had an answer for you. The one thing I tell myself often is that they are only little for so long and that I should cherish every moment, especially when she wants to be with mom. Hopefully I am not overdoing it and causing her more stress. Hugs to you and I hope our situations work themselves out soon!
I too have heard people say they're only young for a short while so enjoy it and I really try but I understand exactly how frustrating clingy can be. I feel guilty for wanting a break but I do need one. I'm trying to find work now and I plan to put her in daycare. I talk to her daily about how much fun she will have at school and how many friends she will make and so far she's all for it. I hope that when I finally enroll her she won't break down.
After becoming a mother I've truly realized how difficult it can be. It is wonderful and rewarding but also heart breaking and exhausting. Thank God he made women strong enough to handle all the craziness of motherhood!
