Marlow is my only child. I fostered another child before she was born, and I had to take that child bra shopping...have the period talk...but the sex and baby stuff....my foster child had long learned that by then!
Now Marlow is suddenly full of questions about babies!
How they got in the belly
What they do in there
how they come out
why people have babies
what makes a baby a boy or a girl
where does a babies pee go
what do they eat
why do some babies only have a mommy and no daddy
why do some babies die.
On and on and on.
I'm not really sure where they are coming from but she does have nine cousins older then her ranging from 4-18 and she is particularily close with a 5 and 6 year old cousin. So maybe she got the questions from them?
Anyhow. I'm trying to answer truthfully but without scarring her! I have NO experience in this field and I'm winging it hardcore. Here are some of my answers and maybe you guys can help some of the questions I'm lost on??
Babies get into mommys bellys because a daddy puts it there. We didn't go into any more detail and at the moment that satisfies her.
Babies just hang out in the belly
How they come out...ummmm...I have no idea how to explain that one!
Why people have babies gets me too. I cant tell her its because they are married as her father and I are in a commited relationship (7 years) but are not married. For now I told her people have babies because they want a wonderful being to love but that doesnt seem to satisfy her.
what makes a baby a boy or a girl? Magic lol how do you explain chromosomes to a three year old??
A babies pee stays in its 'baby bag' with the baby. She was supremley grossed out by this and informed me she held her pee the whole time she was in my belly before she swam around and found a diaper because thats just disgusting lol
babies eat what mom does through a special straw lol
I dont know how to explain the one parent thing. She is aware of death, but honestly, nowdays alot of one parent familys start with beer and libido or short term relationships.
Why do some babies die. I told her that some babies were meant to only be here for a bit. We are NOT religious...so those babies being called back to heaven, becoming angels etc is not a useable option.
Any help would be greatly appreciated guys!!

Why people have babies? I think I'd say the same as you.
Where does baby pee go? Actually it gets into mom's blood and is processed similarly to mom's pee. So I'd say "It just goes to mommy's bladder and mommy pees it out".
One parent thing ... hmmm. You could say "Some mommies or daddies may not know how to take care of kids and so they go away."
Then I'd reassure her that this is rare and that there's no way this would happen to her.
Why some babies die? Uf, that's tough. I think I'd say "Everyone dies. Some people die when they are old, some die when they fall down the stairs or get hit by a car, and some die when they get sick. Those babies that died have been sick first." Then I'd reassure her that that's all OK and natural and that she shouldn't worry about dying since it's pretty rare.
Man, these are some tough questions. I don't envy you!
