Just woundering what people thought about the idea of little ones getting their ear prieced when they are so young. My sister-in-law was going to take my daughter to get hers done for Christmas but I was very nice when I told her no thanks. I said that I felt I wanted Aubrey who is only 10 months to be able to come to me and ask to get them done when she feels ready like I did with my mom. I think she was upset as she had hers done when she was very young and also had her son's done when he was around Aubrey's age. She will not even ask to take Aubrey any where as she used to since having this conversation. I was not rude about it but it was the first time that I ever told her no that she could not get my daughter something or take her somewhere. She then had the nerve to say if I did this people would stop calling Aubrey a boy. Why should I care if people think she is a boy! I know what she is I had her. Just venting

your baby , your rules. You have to do the upkeep on the ears and always a risk of infection. I wouldn't worry about it, it's your baby not hers.

Personally, I had both my daughters ears done at 2 months and will be having my 3rd daughter's dane at that age at well. It all comes down to what you want. I think yous SIL is being very immature. She needs to repect the rules you have for your daughter. Best wishes.

After being the mommy of 3 boys and recently hving a baby girl I would looooooooove to get her ears pierced but I am waiting until she is older...LOL she'll be 3 weeks tomorrow. But I honestly want to wait until she is like preschool age or older...for me call me crazy but the diea of her being little and grabby I wouldn't want her to rip the earring out....just my thoughts!

Number one I think it's nobodies business but yours. Number two I think you're totally right about letting her be old enough to make the decision herself. As far as looking like a girl- my ears were pierced and people still thought i was a boy. Who cares? LOL

It's your child; therefore, your rules apply. Some women have their babies' ears pierced; others do not. I know many women in both category. It's whatever you feel comfortable with.

Your SIL is totally wrong. She needs to butt out, and what's with her saying that Aubrey will be taken as a little boy? If Aubrey is the little pumpkin in your avi, she's adorable! And it's quite obvious that she is a girl.

Personal opinion---I don't like it. Getting her ears pierced so that, for like a few months, ppl don't call her a boy? Dress her in pink if you're that worried about it. LOL My friend did it, and I, like you, think it's a cool thing to do when they are older. I got straight A's (okay, B's) in like 3rd grade, and getting my ears pierced was my reward. I got to choose it, and I worked for it! I'll prob. do the same when I have a girl.

p.s. did you say your friend got her Son's ears pierced??

tyyypical sister in law.
1. she doesn't look like a boy.
2. she got her son's ears pierced so i really don't see how that would even make her say that people would think she's a girl if she got them pierced. she obviously just said that because she was pissed.
3. getting her ears pierced should be AUBREY's decision. she might want to have them done one day (and that would be really nice for you to do together or as a reward for her like justmarried said) or she might not want them pierced and regret it if she has them now! Tattoo's and piercings are getting so popular right now that by the time she's a teenager they might be out. they're her ears, not her aunts so i think its pretty invasive (even though she thought it might be a nice gesture) to poke holes through them!
i got mine done when i was older, like you. i did it with my mom, and it was special!

What you want for your child is your business. If she's gets upset, so be it. Personally, my daughter is 2months today actually and my local jeweler will pierce at 3 months. We are doing it then. I feel that they'll be less likely to pull at them and bother them when their younger. Don't you worry about what others thing of your rules!! Good Luck!

I'm going to let my daughter make that decision for herself and do it herself when she's ready. It seems like just another thing to manage that I really don't need. Plus I can barely keep earrings in my own ears, let alone someone else's.

I didn't like having to convince my mom when I was in the third grade to get my ears pierced. All the girls already had theirs and here I was at the end of that line begging and pleading. Finally she said yes. With my daughter I asked the doctor for age recommendation on earring piercing when it comes to babies. He said 7 months is best. He even did it in his office. My daughter loves jewelry so much, it's amazing to me when my 8 month old can say "pretty" when pointing at jewelry already.

But in the end it is all about what you want and how you feel. Everyone is different.

I think that it is best for your daughter to be able to make her own decision regarding a possibly permanent body modification (my holes are still present even though I quit wearing earrings in second grade) , especially one that older children and adults get done all the time. If she does want it done, it will also be more special to her when she is older and something that she can remember.

Maybe she will just drop it if you say it is something you want to do with her. The things that mommies and daughters do together is sacred... she can't deny that!

Some people do it because they don' remember the pain. But the fact is tht it is painful and I would never want to hurt my little one. I would wait for them to ask for it.

i know someone who had their daughter done.as the baby has short hair she is still mistaken for a boy even with pierced ears. the mother wishes she hadn't had it done but had a lot of family pressure. she has to be very careful pulling clothes over the babys head
