I would just give it a try! I made my own baby food, but stage 2 is when there are lumps right? I just went with my gut, and when I thought maybe she was ready I just tried it....the worst that could happen was she didn't like it and I went back to pureed stuff. Luckily, by seven months my daughter was eating lumpy food! And by ten months we didn't grind up anything at all, just chunked it.

My doctor told us to move up to the stage 2 foods at her 6 month appointment. She is now 8 months. He said NO meats yet though just the veg and fruit ones.

my DS didn't have solids til 6 months and he started with stage 2. he eats fruits, veggies and meats. the only thing he hasn't really tried is tomato and that's because i was allergic as a baby so i'm afraid to give them to him

My 8mo old twins have been on stage 2 fruits and veggies for about a month or so now. I honestly didn't see that much of a difference between stage 1 & 2 except the portion was an ounce more.

I don't remember how old mine were when I started them on stage 2. I just moved them up when the serving size in stage 1 wasn't enough for them. I also didn't see a difference between 1 and 2. Except for maybe 2 is a little thicker but not much.

With DS, he got moved because he wanted more options in his food also. I wanna say that by 7 or 8 months both of them were on stage 3 plus some of the things that I would make.

There is NO difference between stage 1 and 2 when it comes to consistancy. They are both smooth without any chunks. The only differences I can think of is stage 2 comes in a bigger jar and there is more variety when it comes to the flavors. Stage 3 is the ones that has all different types of textures and chunks. I believe we switched to stage 2 between 6 & 7 months.

Ella is 5 months and we started her on solids at 4 months due to what we thought was reflux. She has been through all of the stage 1 veggies. They didn't have any stage 1 fruits at the store when we were ready to start fruits, only stage 2 so we bought them. There is no difference that I know of. She started on bananas yesterday and it's smooth with no chunks. It's still pretty thin too. She's doing great with them. She's now on stage 2 fruits and veggies.

We skipped stage one because our store happened to only have stage two that day.

I agree with the others.... There is not much difference in texture and thickness, a little but not much. The difference is really portion size. I started off with stage 2 when I introduced solids at 6 months.

The only difference between stage 1 and stage 2 is portion size.

Thanks for yalls help I really appreciate it. Now I am not to worried about buying stage 2 foods when he finishes the stage 1s that I have already bought.

The nurse told me that if my DD was finishing up a stage 1 and still seemed like she wanted more, then she was ready for stage 2. Stage 2 like some other ladies have noted on here, is the same consistency as stage 1, it just has more in each jar.

Stage 2 really isn't that chunky compared to stage one, I think the quantity is just greater and there are combo foods (like mixed veggies or mixed fruits). My doc said we could move on to stage 2 foods when she got through the stage 1 foods. Just make sure you stick with the one new food at a time rule and you will be fine. Stage 2 foods are fun cause they have such yummy sounding combinations now. My daughter loves most of them!
