Parenting Newborns & Infants (0-1) Support Group
Feeding your infant and ensuring they are getting enough nutrition is one of the most important aspects of parenting during that first year. This community is dedicated to those who are nurturing a baby, whether breastfed or formula-fed.
They do grunt a lot at that age especially when they are trying to poop...so it is probably all normal. Hopefully it gets better for him!! Congrats on your little baby boy!
At 2 weeks old I would not recomend prune juice and your doc probally will not either as they need to eat as much formula as possible and it just takes up space in the tummy that the formula needs..
when he is a tad older that is an option as is karo surup water.
You can 'assist' him in pooping. He may not like it to start with but he will thank you when his tummy doesnt hurt any more. You can safely do this by getting INFANT glycerine suppositories (again check with the oncall doc first of cource). Or you can use a q tip and some vasaline. The vasaline will make it a bit easier for him to pass the stool. and the q tip ( or thermomitor works to) stimulates the urge to potty. I actually had to ue a q tip to assist the poop in coming out with my now 5 year old baby. I then made an apt asap to get her looked at and get the ok to change her formula.
My kids have a milk protien allergy. WIth my newest baby we are completely skiping the milk based stuff and went straight to nutramagen and alumentim (same thing different brands).... it is nearly 25$ a can on average depending on where you buy it. If not on wic the nutramagen actually is more healthy imo. if you compare the 2 it has a better protien base, and more vitamins and stuff. Wic in my state how ever will only cover alumentium so we are changing over to that....
Definantly talk to your doc about formula...
Oh ya if you have to help your son poop, I would get a towel lay it on a changing table or counter. My hubby and I did this together. Have one holdhis feet pulled in toward his chest and allow him to push against your hands but provide resistance. this will help him push. then have the second erson use the q tip and vasaline and lubercate the area (and just inside - but not far.... no farther then the first knuckle on your pinky finger) in other words just barely inside. and if ou can use the q tip to assist it in coming out... not an easy thing nor a pleasent thing but love will push you throught and help you help your baby... nothing is worse then seeing your baby in pain...

I hope that helps your little guy :)
HEr stools where much looser with the nutramagen instead of with the alumentium. today her stools where on the firm side and had shape.. (she pooped while I was changing her (yuck lol)) So I wouldnt go by brand name as a cause alll the time
