My son is almost 5 and he has been what i call potty trained sinced he was 2, EXCEPT when he starts to laugh and then he wets his pants! This has always happend but up till now i just kept thinkin, HE'LL OUTGROW IT! but so far he hasnt, i first tryed Scolding him then as he got older im preaty sure he cant help it so i dont want to make him feel to bad about it! I dont know what to do any one ever heard of this! PLEASE HELP! He starts school this year, PS I am takin him to the doc soon just wanted to see what yall had ta say bout this! THANKS

Do you think when he does this that he already has to go to the bathroom (holding it) and relaxes when he laughs?

My son is a professional holding it to the last minute kind of guy. This kind of thing has happened in the past.

Perhaps your son's bladder has grown yet with the rest of his body...I'm curious to know if this happens when he sneezes?

If so, I would imagine that it is a combo of holding "it" in for too long (which we are all guilty of at one time of another) and to the fact that his little bladder still needs to grow a bit more to catch up to the rest of his body...if you are really concerned I would mention it to his doctor on your next visit...good luck.

I don't know if you've gone to the doctor already, but do you think it could be a UTI? It seems more like a medical issue or that his bladder hasn't matured all the way yet. Good luck!

My nephew, who recently turned 8 is on the same boat. When he was about 5 my sister in law started taking him to the doctor who diagnosed him as having a small bladder. One he said will grow in time, however for the time being it is small for his age. This as I understand is a common problem among boys. Taking your son to the doctor is a good idea as they have good suggestions for exercises he can do to strengthen his bladder. My SIL mentioned they him go every hour (with a timer programmed on his watch). She spoke to the teacher who was very supportive and knew when his timer went off that he could get up during class and empty his bladder. They had to measure his urine levels as well. All these things helped determine his diagnosis and helped him overcome the issues that come along with it (including bed wetting). I should also mention that he also had an issue with his foreskin not going all the way back and they had prescribed a cream he needed to apply every night. Not sure if the two were related but once that issue was solved it seemed to help.
