How alone?...my son is 7 and started taking showers by himself at 6 1/2 and my 6 year old has been taking baths by himself for a while now....I just limit the amount of water and check frequently...without him knowing....I think it depends on your kids though...do you feel like they are able to do it?...or do you think they still need alot of supervision....we sacrafice the bathroom floor when they bathe but Im not worried about there safety....I would say noone under 5 should be left alone...just because they panic instead of save themselves.....but as long as you check every now and then and leave the door open....I dont think 5 and up would be a bad start.

my son has been bathing alone since age 5. He doesn't take baths though, he takes showers. Always has, even when he was a baby, my husband took him in the shower with him instead of a tub bath.

Less risk of drowning this way too.

My daughter is 8 and I started letting her take a shower completely by herself when she was 7. At age 6, I would let her do the work, but I was right there with her. I still check on her frequently while she is in the shower.

i would say at around 6. they should satrt bathin themselves. Personally I have all my kids take showers. But its b/c ive found that if i make them shower instead of allowin them to get a bath then they dont play and waste my water. 10 mins a pc compared to 3 hrs i think is a big difference.

My son was old enough at 5 to be in the tub by himself. I do check on him and help him wash his hair, but he does the rest on his own.

I have two girls, 5 and 8. The eight year old showers by herself and has for about two years. The five year old still needs a little help washing her hair but can do it.

My son has been giving himself showers since he was 8, but I had to make sure he washed and rinsed his hair all the way. My daughter and son need help with the hair (6 yr. old twins), but I let them do the rest. I warn them that I'd better smell soap on them or they are doing it again. haha. they hate showers!

BTW, I recommend by age 5, opposite sex siblings take separate baths/showers. I have B/G twins and started running into "questions" at that age.

my older two are 5 and 6. They bathe and shower alone but I be sure they wash well and I wash their hair. My daughter has kinda long curly haor so I am not sure when she can do this she is 5. We do equal amt of shower and bath. They like baths to play which is fine if we have th time but if its rush night its showers.

Our daughter has bum lenght very thick hair, at 7 she plays in the bath but the shower is hand held I fear my room will swim!

My daughter started bathing by herself at 4 1/2. I didn't have to sit in the bathroom with her, I'd just leave the door open. I'd wash her hair but she'd wash her body. Now she's almost 6, she takes showers by herself now and I have to do minimal helping with her washing her hair. The more you let them do on their own, the more responsible they are. If you're worried, sit outside the closed door. That way you'll be right there but I'm sure it'll be fine.

my problem is that I am deaf, and she refuses to just bathe she wants to play, doesn't matter what I say she WILL play! I even pull the plug out of the tub she still refuses to wash or get out.

my 8 yr old still pours out all the shampoos, throws water everywhere, jumps and acts like a moron if i leave him alone to bathe...sigh...everything is a battle...i wonder if he'll ever choose appropriate behavior.

I just started teaching my 7 year old and 5 year old how to really wash themsleves. I stand over them and make sure they get between the toes. I also turn the water on for them too. I let them shower "alone" but I stay pretty close.

My biggest worry is always that they will play with the faucet and turn on the hot and not know what to do. We keep out water temp down, but it still gets hot.

Both of my older girls could bathe themselves with little to no help when they entered kinder, however i was still in the room to make all the soap was out of their hair and such til about age 6.
