Hi everyone!
I used to frequent this group along side some other groups back in 2008-2009 when I was going through my divorce and my anxiety/panic disorder started. This site has given me so much personally and mentally. I actually met my wife on here! Married 2 year's and have a 2 year old little girl who is my world =)
I can say after 4 years of hell, I feel pretty good. I am used to anxiety and panic and I accept it with open arm's.
I have one huge hurdle that I feel is something I must face.
I stopped drinking totally 2 years ago this Christmas. I don't even remember why, I think I had feelings of a panic attack and decided to cut it out totally. Most will say, "fantastic! better off for you anyway!" But i disagree.
Thing is I WANT to drink. I enjoy drinking. I love the taste of a cold beer on a hot summer day. I love the taste of jack on the rocks under the moonlight while your reading a book. I ENJOY these things. Some of my most memorable times growing up was drinking with the boys, having fun, letting go and just having a good time.
I know the main reason I choose not to drink is because I cannot take my "emergency pills" as I like to call them, my benzo's. This is what freak's me out the most. Even the smell of whiskey or beer literally makes feel, afraid which is NOT me. I am not a scared person, I am not someone who can just roll over and accept the fact that I cannot do something in life, even be it as small as having a drink with my wife after work.
This is it, this is my last major hurdle and I would be SO very proud of myself if I can accomplish what I plan too this Christmas. I plan to drink and I plan to have a fantastic time doing it. I feel it;s time to face this, I don't think anyone should have to sacrifice ANYTHING in there life because of panic or anxiety.
I'm not sure if this is going to make much sense to anyone or if anyone can relate but this has been on my mind for the better part of a year and I feel like it's time. It's time to enjoy the things in life I want to enjoy.
Other then that, I can thankfully say its been around 2 years since my last panic attack. I've learned how to control them, as soon as I feel the on set I know exactly what my body and mind need to calm myself right away and sway the negative thoughts and feelings of dread.
Hang in there, it gets better!!!

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
I dont know how that could be possible? I know its the key to getting over them but I just cannot imagine how you got to that point?
Thanks for your post... it gave me strength for the day.
do the others enjoy their panic attacks ?
Now, truth be told I always...ALWAYS have a bottle of Ativan on me. Granted the ativan I have in my coat right now are little more then dust as I have not had to open the bottle in over 2 years, it's a psychological comfort for me.
I'll give you my though process when It starts and maybe you can take something out of it that may help you man..
It starts, you get that numbness shooting down your arms, chest starts to tightest and you start feeling lightheaded and the total and utter fear starts to take hold. At this point obviously I know whats going on as this is nothing new. I'm not dying, I'm not having a heart attack, I'm not going crazy. My SNS is misinterpretting signals from my brain and causing these reactions in my body. Thats IT. That's what it is, and that is all it will ever be. I'll slowly start to take massive deep breaths in my nose, out through my mouth. Mentally i'll picture a glass, filled with my panic and with every breath, I can literally feel and SEE my panic and fear starting to empty. I repeat this untill I feel mentally stable again, in a few min's I'll have my strength back and i'll go on with my day.
That's all I do, I reassure myself about what is happening and talk myself down, I almost try to meditate during this as for some reason it helps! Work on it, do some research and keep positive about it. Accept what is happening to you and embrace it....and then let it go. If want anymore help I can do my best to try to help you via PM.
Harry3333, I used to use Xanax and Ativan pretty regularly but I hated the side effects of the medication. Which is why I decided to try to combat this on my own. I"M in control of my mind, nothing else...Just once in awhile it try's to pull a fast one on me..but I put it back in its place. ;p
