Hi everybody,
I joined this site in hopes of finding ways of preventing panic attacks. I'm a 24 year old man who's been having panic attacks for a year and a half now. My friends and family do not understand this at all so I have no one to talk to about these attacks that have just been wrecking havoc in my life.
I get them about once or twice a day, almost always in the evening. For no apparent reason I'm hit with this insanely intense fear even though nothing is happening to me. I sweat and scream a lot, my heart races, I get chills and shake a lot They last anywhere from 10 minutes to a few hours, can't really tell what makes it short or long.
They really get in the way of work and my personal life. I want to know what people do to prevent them from happening again. I have tried therapy but it didn't do me any good, no results not even a little after a year of going. I tried a multitude of medicines, like Klonopine, Zoloft, but none of them made it any better. I'm really at a lost as to what to do because all of the other advice I've seen on the internet, like deep breathing, meditation, etc, that hasn't worked at all.

Hi Baelon. I am brand new to this group. I am not medical professional, but I have had panic disorder for almost 30 years and can tell you some of the things that have worked for me. I learned some of these "tricks" when I went to a clinic at White Plains Hospital in 1987. First, I kept a journal which I wrote in all the time. I timed my panic attacks and also wrote about my day. This kept me focused on the task at hand. I also would wear a rubber band on my wrist and snap it hard the minute my thoughts started drifting toward anxiety. I called this "snapping myself out of it". This too worked well for me. I do word puzzles, sudoko or anything that I have to focus on. My thought is that the more occupied I keep my mind, the less I have panic. I believe that boredom invites panic. I hope this helps a little.

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
