Hi, I was wondering if anyone else has this happen. I;ve been dealing with anxiety issues for quite awhil and I can basically (during the day) if I feel a panic attack coming on, calm myself down/distract myself and it goes away. The problem now seems to be that I will "surge" awake in the middle of the night in a full-blown panic attack. I go to bed fine, I'm sleeping and then its like I'm straight up in bed gasping, shaking ,heart beating fast, thinking I'm freaking dying. Then I'll calm down, get up for awhile and go back to bed. So, I was wondering if anyone else has this and if anything helped to get it under control....

these nocturnal panic attacks are common and may be caused by a dream, simply disolve a valium under tongue, do some deep slow breathing and get back to sleep

I get these, sometimes when I take my meds just before bed. If I'm not relaxed before sleep I get them too. I try to watch a funny show/movie or think of something relaxing before I fall asleep.

Before you go to bed do something relaxing like read a book or listen to some soothing music. Try a lavendar bath, have a warm milky drink or a herbal tea like cammomile which is relaxing and will help you drift off and hopefully have a peaceful night's sleep.

I have night panic attacks all the time. Sometimes I can recognize that I came out of a dream and sometimes not. I respond to them in the same way I do during the day.
