Talking about Valium is a good discussion starter. I've gone to docs that would not prescribe me benzos even though I could not leave my house b/c of my panic.
Some docs give them, I had to go to psychiatrist to get any helpful meds though.
I personally beleive that people need to give good efforts to rid themselves of panic with out meds, but if they are not being successful by all means get a prescription for tranquilezer's.
I definately think it is better to have the Doc suggest what Tranq's they think will be best for you, but asking questions and finding out why they choose that particular one is extremely important.

your dr. should be refering you to a pschiatrist in the first place. yes a regular md. can prescribe benzos, bit i'd rather have someone with more knowledge.
