Symptoms include trembling, shortness of breath, heart palpitations, sweating, nausea, dizziness, hyperventilation, and sensations of choking or smothering. some people put too much trust in their doctors..and their doctors eat up their money and make insurance prices skyrocket.
antidepressants do NOT take weeks to work. i notice mine work within hours, so i take it on an as-needed basis (which my doctor hates, but hey F-you, I hate side effects!)
if an anti-dep doesn't work within a week, you should switch to one in a different class until you find one that does.
you are correct too harry..they may stop working.
any drug that you take for long periods of time...it's effect will change on you. that sums it up right there...whether it's a street drug or OTC...if it alters your brain chemistry..your brain WILL change as a result of using it, and it may not work after a while, or it may work too well, or you may develop awful side effects...
and who knows the effects the drugs will have 20 years down the road because they don't test drugs for that long....NOR do they test what happens when you mix the huge number of possible combinations that are possible when you are taking other drugs or have taken other drugs.
when in doubt, DON'T TAKE IT!!! unless ya life depends on it
I have to put my trust in someone and luckily I have a great partner, friends and family who I put all my faith in. Ooops for got about my never ending faith (even when some days it feels like the devil anxiety has one) in God. Staying positive is so important.
We have to fight this thing daily but we cannot always do it alone. If you don't trust your doctor find one that is dealing with patients in a similar situation. Don't give up on them.
Brian.
the placebo effect is very strong for anxiety sufferers
i'd be happy to participate in a blind study with you, but that would be too difficult.
what i can tell you is that i am not at all one to submit to a placebo effect, not that you would trust my word, but. i have tried nearly every antidepressant that is reasonably safe - from SSRIs to tricyclics, and only 3 have worked...one quit working. one made me manic within 30 days..and the other i rarely take.
it is hard to say how the pills work though.
if the pills really alter neurotransmitters, then doctors would be smart to see which ones are low..and do tests after a medication is started...of course that would probably put them out of business, so i'm going to end siding with you harry, but in my case, no, i do not believe i fall victim to a placebo effect.
