pain was during Acute attack. centre under breast.. where it is soft. but it radiates around to back. the pain is so bad during acute attack. that you cant catch your breath
yes the pain is referred. but that is the usual place for AP pain.
similar to gall bladder pain. which is prob not as severe.

after an AA. the ongoing feeling of nausea and pain. .the pain seems to go off in different directions.. I was sick from april - july with this last attack
CREON didn't help me at all. I had very strong expensive anti nausea medication so I could function
I cannot speak about CP pain.

I just want to make sure I am reading this correctly. Did your doctor say that 2 inches below the breast is above the pancreas? I thought the pancreas was pretty much where you described. Interesting. My gosh, this is all so confusing :( I hope you are feeling better.

Yep, he said it starts a little above the belly button and then extends up towards the left. My pain is 3 fingers below the breast plate, The location he showed is about 5 finger below. Its lower than I thought. I guess my pain is where the spleen, part of liver and top of stomach lies. I always thought on diagrams that it looked lower than where my pain is. Ive come to learn though that panc pain can be anywhere in the vicinity

There is a web site called my powerful pancreas that has a really good view of the pancreas location from the back. It is under your rib cage behind your stomach so you could have pain 2" below your breast referred from your pancreas. If it's your right side it could be where your CBd - common bile duct connects to your duodenum, etc.i have a lot of pain there and that's where my pain started. Over time it has moved to the left and across my back wrapping around my torso. The enzymes don't help everyone. I am allergic to Creon so I couldn't take it. I take Viokace which I am also allergic to, but less severe, and it has helped me.

My pancreatic pain has always been right below my ribs on the left side. My doctor and another doctor also told me I have the wrong place. They told me I would be in pain right where the ribs meet in the middle. I associate that area with stomach pain. Maybe the doctors do not know where the pain should be even though they know anatomically where the pancreas should be. I think your doctor is a little low on the pancreas. It is behind the stomach and extends a bit higher than the stomach to the left. Please do not second guess your pain. They had me doing that too. This is a good post.

So Caitlin yours is at the bottom of your rib cage?

It is below my rib cage right in the middle of the rib cage. Right below it.

my pain is incrediblely sharp and in the solarplexes center upper stomach but the last attack it also went through to my rack on the left side and that is a new one for me but ive heard other people say it good luck

My pains are sharp too-like a sharp stab. Is that what you get dcocker? Its bizarre how different pain can be. Catlyn, where you described is where my dr said it typically is. And that leaning forward can ease the pain, thats not the case for me-leaning forward makes it worse, and the stabs are so quick its not like an ongoing pain/ache.

Reading through all the chats I understand we all have the same issue and the pain is the same. My pain is chronic and it feels awful but I try to stay positive and in prayer. But at times all that does it get me out of my head and off the pain attacks. I hope the best for all of you and if it wasnt for some of you I would be going through this alone. Thanks to all of you for being there , here and everywhere.

How can I tell from my symptoms whether I have gastritis or pancreatitis? I was diagnosed with gastritis (endoscopy) last year and it seems it never went away. On Prilosec and Prevacid. Often have acidy stomach, stomach digesting itself feeling, bloating, gassiness, burping, distended abdomen. In past 2 months though pain right in middle to lower stomach, within 2" above belly button, sometimes slightly to left. Feels like it's on the "surface" of stomach, so if I push it feels like it's not too far in. Feels like I was punched or there's a hole in stomach, and a "tight" feeling. Usually accompanied by severe abdominal bloating and distention. No other pain anywhere else, no back pain or shoulders or chest, although occasionally lump in throat feeling when acid feeling starts. This horrible pain occurs maybe once a week, although even when I don't have the pain I still have the acidy feeling and stomach digesting itself feeling, along with the bloating and burping.

Do my symptoms sound like pancreatitis? Or even gallbladder? What is the best test for those? Thank you!

Your symptoms could be a number of things. Id start by getting your lipase drawn to see if there are issues with your pancreas. However, your pain really doesnt sound like it though its a complex disease that tends to be different in most people. If you suspect GB ask for a HIDA scan though typically pain is left sided. Really could be anything, even IBS.

My pain varies in location. When I have a severe attack it is in the middle of ribs (pit of my stomach) down to my naval and basically radiates across my torso. After an AP attack I find the pain moves around from the right side under my ribs thru to my back or it will wrap around my back to the left. I find that as I recover from an acute attack I have much more nerve pain (at least I think it's nerve pain) shooting thru to my back especially after I eat. This is a good question and helpful to see how everyone else experiences their pain.

Panky pain does vary in location but not that far off...your panky is right below the center of your sternum....at least 2 inches Above your belly button....anything below it would be your colon/intestines not your pancreas. My pancreas pain is center and sometimes can radiate to the right or left side but only a couple inches over nothing more....also it can radiates straight to the back or feels like I have a belt wrapped around my body. But pancreas pain does not go below your belly button. There could be irritable bowel, gas, constipation, etc when it is located down that far. The pain can be equivalent to panky pain too even gas pains. The only way to truly know if you have pancreatitis is to get blood test and radiology done esp mrcp (mri of the pancreas). My pain can be neuro type but more often it feels like something is boring deep inside or I am being punched in the gut repeatedly.
