question????? about stint.

I have had the stint and had it removed. How long did others have to leave the stint in for. I was told 4 weeks which I left it in for. Now the doctor at John Hopkins says I should have another on and leave it in for 8 weeks. Just wondering if anyone else has this problem. He told me to have it removed and now he acts like he didn't want it removed. Just mystified by the doctors who change their minds. Thanks in advance for the info. Have a pain free day everyone. I wish I could.

I don't know but I would like to. I had mine placed Fed 1st and they are waiting until 4/6 to take it out. I didn't think they were supposed to be left in so long but here I am, waiting.

Hope your stint helps mine did nothing. When they removed it the pain started all over. Wishing you good health.

Our Dr said usually 4-6 weeks. They don't like to leave it in too long. Hope it works for you too. My wife had 3, still gets it.

Hi kelsmom51, I have a few questions....1) why do you have to have the stent in the first place? 2)have you found that the stent has helped you? Does it cause you less or more pain? Reasons why i ask is that my ducts are narrow and irregular shaped and I get pain after i eat moreso then any other time. But i keep hearing that having the stents cause more problems and pain. My heart goes out to you.....Not fair the pain we all have to go through with this. I hope yours if not pain free is less today!

They put the stint in because my bile duct was blocked. It stayed in for 4 weeks it helped a little when it was in, but when it was removed the pain came back. The throwing up started again too. Thanks for you for the well wishes I hope your pain in controlable also...

Why do they keep putting them in. If they worked for a while I could understand but as soon as they removed mine the pain and throwing up came back. I just don't want to put my body throuh surgery to put it in and they surgery to take it out for just a week or two of painless days. Why was hers put in?

When my son had stents they were working to stretch his duct, so they pulled one stent and replaced it with a larger one.

His GI doctor told me that in this stretching procedure a stent stays in based on its size, so a 4French stent was in four weeks; an 8French was replaced after 8 weeks...

Perhaps this is what your doctor is doing.

FYI, after recovering from the acute attacks the ERCP and stenting always caused, he seemed to feel better for awhile. And when it was time to replace the stent and he had been feeling really sick we weren't surprised to hear that the stent was clogged...
