My lipase and amylase are now back to normal after 13 weeks of pancreatitis. I am still in so much pain I can hardly stand it. I had a ultrasound today because its been over 3 months. So what I am asking does anyone else have this severe pain even if your numbers are normal. Whats up with this. They told me the pain would go away once the numbers were down. the lipase was 26 down form 900 and the amylase was down to 45 after 111. Three weeks ago . Please if you have this same problem help me. Thanks in advance.
PS I am on creon, reglan,statol for pain. Hycosolmine, Motrin for the inflamation, tramalod for pain also....

I have had high enzymes but even when they are not high, my pain is always there. And with attacks I never have high enzymes.

from what my Dr said it is yet not really known, they only have theories, but they do know it is happening, yes i do have pain with normal levels

You can have chronic pancreatitis with normal enzyme levels. I even can have normal numbers when I have an acute attack...sometimes the dr said there arent enough enzymes to elevate the numbers.....But just because your numbers are normal doesnt mean your pain goes away! Thats why we are here for support when we all arent feeling well or for more info of whats out there.....if the pain meds arent working for you please tell the dr you prob need something stronger...always speak up to your dr. I hope you get some relief soon! Hugs

Jen It was a build up of hydrocodone in my system. They had me on a reasearch drug they said. It was given 3 times daily and one rescue pill. It added up to 45mg a day. I got to where I could not go to the bathroom for a week and that is what caused it. Thanks for adding me as a friend.... New to the board and don't really know how its done yet.

When I have the ERCP with Sphynctometry I alwaqys get AP and have to be hospitalized and my numbers are huge. But with the CP, my numbers are always within range. It's one of the things that frustrates me the most - normal levels and extreme pain. Fortunately my regular Dr. believes me and is copied on my hospital procedures, so I don't have any issues getting pain meds. But I don't ever go to an ER - I've heard horror stories about how they treat you like a drug addict.

Thanks Jublee. I was beginning to think I was crazy. The nurse said hey your numbers are down so the pain is gone right. I said no and I hurt the same as when my numbers where hight. I have to call to see the results of the ultrasound today or tomorrow. Maybe it will tell them something. Thanks to you all for the help. It is so flustrating to deal with this and now I have you guys. thanks.

Hey Kelsmom my pain has not gone away since my first and only attack in March and they say I have CP- never had an attack before??? I have stayed in pain and they have kept on increasing my meds to the point I feel like my Drs think I'm a drug addict. They kept on telling me I was healing because my number were getting better and the pain should go away. Guess what it didn't!! Then my bile ducts got blocked and I had to go to the ER and have more test done and a stent put in. After 3 hospital visits( all in Aug), lots more testing I find out that I have pancreatic cancer (they told me in July that it was not cancer). I am having surgery in 3 weeks. What I am saying is keep telling them you hurt and if needed go to another doctor. It took me having to go to the hospital and seeing a "new" set of doctors to get any answers. I don't want to worry you but its your body and you know how you feel. Praying for everyone and lots of hugs. Pam

pam772 I am so sorry that you have the diagonis of cancer. I will be praying for a full recovery and all cancer be gone. I pray you will keep us updated on the progress. I will do what you said and never give up trying to find something that works. Please all of us should pray for a cure. We are joined with this disease and we should fight for a cure....

You can definitely have pain without having high enzyme levels. In fact, most of the time when I go to the ER with pain, my enzyme levels are within normal range. They say it's very common. My pancreas is so shot and so calcified, that it rarely has the ability to produce high amounts of enzymes anymore, but is still severely damaged and causes pain all the time. Prayers and hugs to you as you go through your journey of pain, strength and nursing yourself back to health. Also, if you are having trouble going to the bathroom due to pain medication, you should try taking a couple of senna tablets each day. They are natural vegatable laxatives. My doctor recommended them and they have really helped. They don't cramp my stomach at all, and just help ease things up a bit. Hope that helps!

Thanks sweetanns. I will try the senna. My doc put me on stool softners and they do nothing. I will see my doc again for results of the ultrasound to make sure its not something else to do with the pancreas. I hurt as I am sure all of you do. I have a high tolernance for pain but this is the worst pain I have ever has. Inlcluding surgeries and arthirtis pain. I broke my back and it didn't hurt this bad.lol
