I would try to get him in to see a pancreatic specialist and if there isn't one available at least a gi doctor, the weight loss is troubling and probably needs to be checked into. Now the pain issue is a whole other ballgame. It could go away tomorrow or it might never go away, not trying to scare you but if he has developed Chronic Pancreatitis then the pain is likely there to stay for the forseeable future, now if it is simply another acute attack it should resolve itself fairly quickly, however again I strongly suggest getting him in to see someone soon! I do hope he feels better soon.

If I have an episode I'm suppose to stop eating for 24 hours. After 24 hours, begin with clear liquids. If I can't drink water without pain, then I have to go to the ER. If I can tolerate clear liquids for 24 hours then I can slowly (daily) increase food. If it causes pain, I have to go back to nothing to eat for 24 hours again. From what I understand, as long as there is pain more damage is taking place. The idea is to rest the pancreas until it can calm down. Seeing a specialist is a good idea.

Thank you. He goes to his GI on Tuesday so hopefully we will get some answers then. For now his pain is being managed with Dilaudid and Morphine. When he was in the hospital they said his CT just showed inflammation and the ultrasound the same - no pseudocysts, but it sounds like those can develop later. For now he is sticking to clear liquids - broth and jello. Would he be smart to just do water for 24 hours?

Whatever doesn't cause him additional pain is probably ok, but you might think about getting some gatorade and ensure clear to keep nutrient and vitamin levels in his body from getting too low or it will make matters worse. If he cannot tolerate those then yes go to straight water, or nothing at all for awhile and see how the pain level does. I know this is a frustrating disease, it is for all of us and the ones caring for us must suffer right along side us, he is lucky to have your support many in our little group don't have anyone to assist them and must deal with this mess alone. Can you imagine that? Hope he feels better soon.

He says he feels a wee bit better today, so fingers crossed the trend continues. Really looking forward to seeing the GI tomorrow. I am sure more tests will be in order.

I've been in pain pretty since December. But, if eating or drinking makes that pain worse I know I'm in a flare and know enough to stop eating. I should say was. I am actually on day 3 of no pain since having stents removed last Thursday!

sorry for what your husband is going through....and I always have pain right after I eat so now I have to take a pain pill to be able to eat....since I can't take digestive enzymes.....if I was able to take them I think my pain wouldn't be so bad. Hope he feels better soon.

Has he tried a pain center (thro his doctor)? Check with his doctor, but I've found Fentanyl to help somewhat. Also, I take a lot of hot baths every day and use a heat pack.

I've had CP for over 7 years and had probably 20 attacks (aka hospitalized NPO). I'm still looking so if you find a magic answer, share! Haha
