And I thought I knew what pain was...
My CP has progressed unbelievably fast. It's only been a year since I was diagnosed. I've had 7 attacks and I'm now on TPN full time...no oral intake except for clear liquids, and even those are restricted (unsweetened, no carbonation, no caffeine, NO FAT). Ugh. What a life.
has any one been prescribed nortriptyline for pain? even though its supposed to be for depression? if so how did it work for you?
I'll just list pain meds (if you want the rest let me know). I tried dilauded but it made me twitcy and itchy and didn't work. Right now I'm on 150mcg Fentanyl patches every 3 days and 2-3 15mg Oxycodone every 4 hours (but I still have a lot of pain). I also take phenergan for naseau, ibuprofen for back pain, flexeril for muscle pain, etc.
One interesting drug my CP specialist started me on for the spasms is Nitroglycerin (2.5mg tablets and 0.4mg sublingual). I know, it's for the heart but it's really for smooth muscle spasms. And it works! Like a charm. You start to feel that cramping like some horse is running across your stomach and bam! It's gone in minutes. Side effect: really nasty headaches.
Hope this helps! I did work for years on 100mcg Fen and 1-2 oxy every 4-6 hours. Maybe your son can handle the levels after his body adjusts? I'll keep you both in my prayers.
