Pain meds that i am on is Oxycodone that works for me , I have duragesic patch if and when i am ready for it and it has worked in the past. I also take xanax for anxiety but it helps also reduce the pain because with the anxiety it increases the pain. I didnt think Lidocaine would work cause i didnt think it goes that deep...more like for muscle or nerve pain closer to the skin.

currently i am on nucynta extended release 150 mg every 12 hours...then i have regular nucynta 75 mg every 6 hours to help with breakthrough pain....just recently started the nucynta er....in the past i have tried oxycodone, lortabs,norco, demeral, morphine, vicoden, percocet, tylenol 3, fentnal through iv pain pump, and fentnal patches.......in the begining demeral helped so did lortabs n norco....but that was only for about 6 months....i was on morphine er n morphine qr....worked great for almost 2 years....and then it just wasn't enough, i became to tolerant to it.....i've been on nucynta qr for about a year and i like it ok.....anything else just didn't help at all and the patches gave me some pretty nasty hives

Levbid helps me the most because it stops the spasming (most of the time). I also take low doses of vicodin as needed, and I wear a lidoderm patch on my upper abdomen right over the pain. When the weather is cool, I wear a handwarmer over the pain (2 for a dollar at Target). I put it in my bra--not sure how a guy would get away with this? I think my pain is probably at my bile duct (not panc pain) at this point since these milder meds mostly keep the pain away. When I had pancreas pain, IV toradol (spelling?) plus 7.5 milligrams of percocet would make it tolerable. Morphine makes me worse.

Forgot to add that dilaudid makes me spasm even worse than morphine. I think it is a morphine based med? And anti-depressants help calm the spasming too.

wow never thought about the patches giving hives... never heard of nucynta....

the first 10 days it made me really sleepy....and now i canfunction alot better.....i had to quit driving about 2 years ago...at the time i was on morphine n my bloodsugar was all over the place n i would faint very often....so i made the decision to stop driving, i couldn't take the risk of hurting some one or my self.....and i don't work, bc my panc issue plus other conditions made it impossible for me to continue working....i am now on disability....so that helps alot....oh i forgot to tell u i also get epidurals in my lower back about every 10 weeks and its awesome....i have alot of nerve damage around my tailbone and up through my lumbar back....and now i can be in a car longer than 10 minutes with out hurting so bad....and i can walk again!! i was in a wheelchair for awhile....i have to use my walker most of the time but on good days i can use my cane....still can't walk very far or for very long....but the epi helps wonderfully....sorry for this long post lol...oh btw nucynta doesn't make me throw up or even queasy like everything else i was on, and m orphine was the worst....

I'm using the fentanyl patches 75 mcg every 3 days and 10mg of oxycodone for breakthrough pain.....usually 2 to three times a day, a really bad day might be 4 times plus donnatal tabs or phenergan. I function pretty well on the meds, other than I'm wiped out after I get home from work. I can drive, I am not foggy headed or anything. I hate driving because the pain is so much worse riding in a vehicle, but I do it. I am still working...I don't think the meds have affected my performance, the pain affects it worse than the meds. Speaking of meds....I have not had breakthru today at all. Yeah......no extra meds today so far. Sorry for that small self celebration, it really is a monumental day when this happens....lol
Now, usually the pain never completely goes away, but it make it bearable. My main goal was to just at least make it manageable so I could keep up with my 5 yr o,d lil boy and still work.

thanx for all of your replies,..... so the pain doc put him on the fentanyl patch, and some drug call "gabapentin" i think this is a nerve pain blocker.... ???? so we shall see if the lad can attend school on the stuff....

Wife takes oxycontin 2x a day during bad attacks with 4-8 mg of dilaudid for breakthru pain. Can be as frequent at 3-4 hrs.

For a while on the fentanyl patches I actually used 2 different strengths to combat the drowsiness. It worked for that but the pain got to intense so I had to increase. Eventually I became tolerant to the higher dose. Just something to think about in case the patches make your son too drowsy. They are available in 12, 25, 50, 75, and 100mcg. Also, read the package insert, your body temp effects the relase of the medication...no hot, hot baths, heating pads directly on site, or hot tubs. If you spike a temp of 102, it could release too rapidly.

I am currently taking 20 mg. of oxycontin 1 pill every 12 hrs for long term pain and for breakthrough meds im on 5 mg. perocet every 6 hrs as needed. These meds do control my pain unless i have a really bad flare up, then its time for an ER visit where they usually give me dilauted and it pretty much does the job.

I currently take Oxycodone 15 mg every 8 hours for my pain. I started off with Percocet and have slowly worked my way up to the stronger pain medications as my CP has worsened (very rapidly, I might add).

I have just recently added oral Dilaudid for when the pain is not controlled by the Oxycodone. Having it here at home saves me a trip to the ER for those really bad episodes.

In 3 weeks, I'm going to attempt my first nerve block. There's a 50/50 shot (no pun intended) that it will work.

My Panky HATES most pain meds orally. I'm on Norco, and Percocet. The highest strength. I have horrid attacks with oral Dilauduid, Morphine ER, any kind of Vicodin, and Tylenol with Codine. Anyone else with this problem?

P.S. I do fice with Morphine and Dilaudid I.V. style. My panky gets angry with the oral stuff.

Question on the nerve block thing..... how exactly to they administer this? are you put out? how long does it last? and... last but not least... are there side effects as in severe leg cramps like the gabapentin?

The only time I took pain medication was after my surgeries. Years ago (25), after my first surgery, they gave me Demerol. It has always been the best medication for me to stop the pain. And, demerol would make me sleep and I would be much better when I woke up. I only took it while I was in the hopital though. I did have a prescription, but I figured if I was in so much pain that I had to take Demerol, I should be at the hospital. The other drug that worked really well was Paragoric. Of course they don't make it anymore because a common side affect was kidney infections. After my first surgery, I was given bottles (glass bottles) of Paragoric (it is liquid opium); it was something I was more comfortable taking then Demerol and it worked very well for me. Nothing they gave me during this last surgery (2 1/2 years ago) seemed to really work. It just made me high, it didn't stop the pain. Morphine does nothing for me, neither did the fetynol, versed, etc. and Percocet is the most horrible addicting drug I've ever experienced. I hope I never have to take it again. It never took away the pain, it just made me sit around and cry. And, I didn't start getting well until I threw it away. Today, I don't take any pain medication and don't even have any. When I have an episode I just have to work through it on my own --- but my pancreas is so diseased that the high pain episodes are far less frequent. When I read about how some of you are in constant pain, it reminds me of what I went through years ago. The disease, and the pain, has changed for me over the years as my pancreas further fails.
