I just had the MRCP with Secretin done last Friday. Mine of course showed a lot of damage so I am being referred to a GI that specializes in the pancreas. It isn't much different than a regular MRCP except they insert an iv to give you a dye. You will most likely have to drink pineapple juice before the scan as it helps act as a negative so the scan shows up more clearly. Good luck.

thanks...I had just a regular one done. I had to drink blueberry juice first. It just doesn't make sense that they didn't even comment on my pancreas. They did say that the pancreatic duct wasn't dialated but nothing about whether the pancreas itself was damaged. Seems a bit odd to me.

I would take it as a good sign and try not to stress about it. Coping mechanism #1 is to have control over the disease. You may not have anything wrong with your pancreas in the first place, so letting the fear control you at this stage is toxic and doesn't help with your frame of mind. Think posive...good things can happen.

I agree...I take it as a good sign. I just want to figure out what's wrong and move on. I'm definately hoping that it means there is nothing wrong with my pancreas. I have a lot going on in my body right now so I hope we find out what it is soon! I've at least been having a good couple of days and it's sunny out which always puts a smile on my face! Plus, my children are hilarious!

Laughter is the best medicine - and laughter leads to more laughter. Has anyone mentioned possible scar tissue where you had your SOD fixed? You could also have sludge in you biliary tract. But I'm glad you are relieved - because stress is a killer. My good friend just had a heart attack from too much stress. He's okay, but it sure is a wake up call! Keep us posted :)

will do...it obviously stinks to not know what's going on but I might as well just enjoy myself when I feel good! I go to indianapolis on October 11th and 12th. They are doing an mrcp withsecretion and than I meet with the doctor. He did my first ercp and diagnosed me with SOD. He's very good so I know that if I don't find out what's going on before than I at least have him. I'm scheduled for an ercp on the 12th in case he needs to do it. I'm slightly hesitant because the first one gave me a very mild pancreatitis attack. However, he did say that it was just the surgery and it wouldn't come back so I could live life as normal. I'm just gonna take his advice and go with it! I'm sure he'll be able to figure out what's going on!

An MRCP with secretin is about the best test they have nowadays to diagnose this disease. Unfortunately they estimate that CP goes undiagnosed 20 to 30% of the time. So of course the question I always have that no one seems to be able to answer is... When all the tests come back clear and there is no blockage, narrowing, dialation, or apparent damage where does all the damn pain come from?

I think the pain comes from the pancreas being chronically inflammed and the resulting scarring of the organ which I don't think you can see unless you have an ERCP. I've been told that I'll have chronic pain due to the scarring of the pancreas. Just a thought.

I have had an ERCP as Well as an MRCP both were normal. My pain level hasn't dropped below about 7 out of 10 in over a year. I never have good days anymore and narcotics and digestive enzymes make my pain much worse. They are going to do a nerve block on me next to try and buy some time while they figure out what is going with me. I try to remain positive or this thing just completely overtakes my life.

it is amazing how positive you are and quite inspiring. I hope that they figure out what is wrong soon and you get some pain relief.
