I leave for Indianapolis on Sunday. I am excited to finally see someone who knows what they are doing! I was wondering if any of you are very hungry. I am hungry a LOT! I feel like I want food all the time but I only eat cereal, bananas, and tortilla shells. I haven't really had much else since this started. I just had about 1/4 to 1/2 piece of pizza. First fat I've had in a long time. I want to see how my body reacts to it because as of right now I can't tell the doctor if fat makes it worse or not. I haven't had any! Let's hope I don't pay for it later! I didn't want to try too much but I felt like I should eat something and see how my body does. Wish me luck!

Try yogurt, frozen is great, I brought a machine and make my own. Pretzels, saltines, I make my own pizza with low fat cheese or parm. I put the sauce in the micro for a minute then add small amount of baking soda and heat it again it takes the acid out. I found a biscotti in bj's that has 2 grams of fat for 13 cookies they are the size of silver dollars. Sometimes I eat the low fat chips. I find lots of the kashi foods are ok. I add the cereal to the yogurt. I eat lots of pretzels and found that I put the honey mustard on them for more taste. Shrimp, chicken, turkey. Just read the labels there is lots of low fat stuff. I find flavored salt things bother me even if the fat is low, like sour cream flavor. Hope this helps.

Let me know how eating the pizza worked. I guess it's trial and error for all of us, but does "sweet" food bother you? I am making a correlation between sugar and my pain. I eat very low fat, like most of you, oatmeal, low fat toast, soup, veggies, but every now and hen I will eat a piece of candy (no fat just tons of sugar) and then the pain. I even had a yogurt parfait as a rest stop (beware of rest stop food) I think it may have been jacked up with totally sugar because it was so sweet, and I had a full blown attack, hospitalized and all in August!

I wish I got hungry. I absolutely have no appitite whatsoever. One doctor thought that it was because I associated pancreatic pain with eating...it's been two 1/2 yrs. now and I don't get pain from eating, unless, I endulge in a high fat content food (and I always pay the price!). And I am a huge candy eater!!! I can eat gummy bears all day long and feel just fine, though this yr. was the first time I had fastfood (Big Mac, small fries and orange soda), I took my enzymes, etc. but only to end up in the E.R. 12 hrs. later!! I never did that again!. I found that any smoothie made with bananas and any other frozen, or fresh fruit, mixed with a protein powder helps me to gain wgt. with no pain. Wgt. gain it another issue that I have. Anytime I try anything different I now just have a small amount and always keep tract of what it was, how much, and how it made me feel. I think that all of us who suffer from chronic pancreatitis can agree that some foods are just out of the question and what might not affect me, might just be the opposite for others. Every body reacts differently and for me it was a hit-and-miss experiment. I remember my G.I. doctor telling me it would take me about 2 to 3 yrs. before I knew what my body (pancreas) liked and didn't like, and he pretty much nailed it on the food issue.

I am happy you get to go to a dr that knows what they are doing. I find myself hungry a lot but just don't overindulge. I am very lucky with the sugary things. I can eat a candy bar with no problem whatsoever, but if I have an egg over easy I am in for it. Crazy thing is scrambled eggs I do fine with. I don't eat nuts at all either. I did that this summer with macadamia nuts and was in the hospital about 15 hours later regretting my decision entirely. Good luck and let us know what happens!

Hello this is my first time on this site.I have chronic pancreatitis as well.as all of you guys.It seems as though there is no real answers to what to eat or what not to eat.when i feel ok i eat what i can. because i know it will only be a short timt before the next attack and i will drop a lott of weight.so when i feel well i try to eat and maintain my weight.this is a hard disease to deal with and most people don't know what we are nreally going through.its nice to know there is a place i can go to and atleast talk about this.I have been in pain for a few days and can't get a doctors appt.I'am so tired of the e.r. i have been stuck so many times its just doesnt hurt at all anymore.because the pancreas pain seems to be so bad nothing else can campare.

I, too am quite hungry most of the time though I do go through bouts of associating food with pain and the very thought of eating anything makes me nauseous. I would be interested to know how your body reacts to the pizza as I just am too afraid. I love cheese; Cheese does not love me! Also, I think it is very important to find a doctor that you can believe in. Good for you. I'm still having trouble with diagnosis. I love my non fat yogurt and put it in the freezer for about a half an hour or so and it makes it the consistency of ice cream. It's fantastic! I stir up the fruit on the bottom and feel like I'm eating ice cream for breakfast and it's good for me. It's the only dairy I can eat. Try it, if you can tolerate yogurt. God bless and hope you get better soon. This is a very troubling condition for anyone who has it.
