Feeling thirsty, lightheaded, urine getting darker, decreased urine output are all signs of dehydration. Also low blood pressure. Personally, I think that if you can't at least get sips of water down you than you're playing with fire by not going to the hospital. And I don't mean once or twice a day to take meds. You're going to end up with more problems. How long have you felt like this?

I got out of the hospital yesterday. I was in for 9 days. I was severly dehydrated. The doctor said that I waited much too long before seeking treatment. If you cannot hold down water, go to the ER immediately! Don't wait until the situation is severe as it is difficult to catch up. I had my gastroenterologist directly admit me so I didn't have to deal with the ER wait times so that was a plus. Bring a good book and your laptop as it can be very boring. I took a lot of walks around the hospital with my IV pole in tow to break the boredom. Bring some change to get a newspaper, too and your underwear without too many holes in it and your pajamas if you are gonna walk around as I did. God bless you and I hope you get better soon.

You feel thirsty, lightheaded, dark urine, not going to the bathroom, headache, cranky, also lack of saliva, dry mouth and lips. Just from the amount you have been taking in you are better off going to the er and getting checked then leaving it. It is not good on your kidneys and liver taking such little amounts of liquid with meds.

one day... no joke! you get dehydrated even when you dont feel it...if you wait you will have worse symptoms.... dont find out what they are! go! even if its just for iv fluids!!!

Thanks all. I am trying to hold out till Monday. I am back to eating but it hurts like the devil. I am still vomiting but I keep more in me than I am losing. So I am just dealing with the pain and vomiting until Monday. I am having to go out of state for help as no one here really knows anything about pancreatitis.

And yes, once my lips started getting excessively dry and a was feeling very off I knew I was playing with fire.

As long as I can keep more in than I lose I will try to work through this until Monday. I have been fighting this since Wednesday. Not sure it will get better without help this time.

My understanding is that the pancreas when it has pancreatitis attack draws water from the body rapidly. People die from pancreatitis sometimes because of other organ failure due to the dehydration this causes. I have worked out with my PCP (primary care doc) that if I have to go into my NPO mode (including no water) I can go to his office and get some fluid IVs so I don't have to go to the ER ($25 compared to $200 and hours of waiting). Unfortunately sometimes (weekends, middle of night) I have still had to go. I have also called an ambulance when I got dehydrated with the flu and my pancreas went nuts. I KNEW I needed IV stat and I live 30 minutes from the hospital with good traffic. They admitted me with 65,000 lipase and MRI showed my pancreas all swollen up. (I have sphincter of Oddi dysfunction and can still eat a low fat veggie diet with enzymes) Don't wait. Get water! Water is GOOD!

I also cant take morphine or codeine drugs also upsets my pancreas. BUT there are other drugs you can take. I feel much better on IV fluids but as soon as I come home back to same stuff. soup. tea. flat lemonade if that doesn't upset you. jelly.

not fair .. my gp has told me to go to hospital every time, as untreated can cause very serious problems. u just don't know when that is.

Water or juice fast is used for diabetes reversing. My 2 cents is that it might be good to drink water or green juices. This will help you reduce the pain long term. Not drinking water may increase the heat in the system and pancreas secretes 2 liters of juice everyday. It possibly needs water. God bless you and may you be pain free. I am not an expert, so please forgive me if it hurts.

Do NOT drink any SOUR juices, because acidity will need pancreas to release bicarbonate. Celery, cucumber, carrot, watermelon, Pear are good.
