Patients with chronic pancreatitis can present with persistent abdominal pain or steatorrhea, as well as severe nausea. Some patients with chronic pancreatitis often look very sick, while others don't appear to be...

Hi fellow sufferers.
Just wondered if a dull ache or pain across the back and round to the sides is a typical chronic pancreatitis symptom. I've never suffered this dull kind of ache/pain before. Is dull pain a symptom of CP? Thanks.

Unfortunately....yes it can be. Have you treid a heating pad ? It feels GOOD and really does help releive the pain.

Thanks so much for that, David. It was getting rather scary as I've not had this kind of pain before. Also I caught a cold over the weekend that seems to have flared the whole thing up again. Oh joy! You know, sometimes when workmates used to debate with me whether there really is a Heaven or Hell I would reply 'most definitely!' I'm in Hell right now, so I'm going to Heaven when I die! lol.

If you have a hot tub (or a neighbor with one), I've found that sitting right in front of the jet sends my pain to hell and me to heaven! Follow up with the heating pad. I'm also NOW a vegetarian... which is ANOTHER pain altogether. Im glad we are heading into the local farmers market season!

Hi David. It's interesting that you mention heat as a relief for pancreatic pain, because I've always found it to be the opposite. A hot tub makes it worse for me. There's no sense to this condition at all, is there? Perhaps it depends on what's causing the pain, the pancreas throwing many and varied little hissyfits! lol.

Oh, forgot to say that the dull pain has gone now and I'm just dealing with a mild pain somewhere out near my right arm in the back. I'm eating very small meals, no/low fat, low protein, in fact low everything until this is all over!

Hi, my husband was diagnosed with C.P. 2 years ago. We finally got a handle on it recently after I did a lot of research. I am starting a wetpaint site still under construction (http://cronicpancreatitis.wetpaint.com) In which I will be adding all I have learned. I do know this, If you have been diagnosed with A.C. or P.C., the warning sign is the dull pain, moderate to severe, and is brought on by fatty foods, red meats, and large portions. Another red flag is constant diarrhea, vomiting, fatigue, and rapid weight loss. That all can be prevented if a strict diet is adhered to. Little to no fat, (4-9g per serving) only good fats. Limit red meat, it is difficult for an inflamed pancreas to process, and cold foods slow down digestion, also inflaming the pancreas, those should be limited too. The pain is the indicator. You do not have to lower protien, just fat. Pork tenderloin and sirloin chops are apporx 4g fat per 4 ounces (which is equal to 20g or more of protein). Rotate proteins. Ocean fish is good in small portions, cooked in little to no oil, and no tarter sauce lol. All this I have tried on my husband, which stopped the vomiting and so on and halted his weight loss. He still has severe fatigue but that will take time to recover. Hope this helps. Check the site every so often to see if I've found anything new. God Bless

Thanks for that, LadyValor! Sadly I've had more of the dull ache today. Thought it had gone away. Have you read anywhere about viruses attacking the pancreas. I was almost over my CP attack when I caught a cold last weekend, and now I feel worse than I did before. Time heals, as they say. I'm so annoyed with myself for catching the cold!

I have not yet read anything like that. I do know the pain is caused by inflamation which causes an increase of bile. Best bet is to cut out most if not all fat, all kinds, even Avacado and olive oil can be an irritant, until the pancreas has calmed down. Chammomlie tea is and anti-inflamatory and may sooth your pancreas. Your swift healing will be in my prayers
