Accepting the reality that the pancreas does not heal was definitely a low point in my pancreas journey. My heart goes out to you. I'm glad to hear you are getting some relief with Creon. That stuff made my gas levels skyrocket. I felt like I could at any moment pop and fly all over the room. :o) I hope you are taking some other kind of pain meds. Opiates have their negative aspects but I can't imagine going through this pain without something for breakthrough pain. If you are not taking anything else, I suggest you ask for something. I'm happy to tell you of my pain med journey and what is giving me some relief if you desire. Also, be mindful that each time they go in the pancreas, there is a possibility of them triggering another acute attack. Make sure you know what they hope to accomplish. You have the right to refuse a procedure as well. I'm not saying that is what you need to do, rather working to empower you as the final decision is yours. Thanks Loyd for the kind thoughts.I am taking stadol and tramadol for breakthrough. They are putting me oxcycodone and no breakthrough can I take something else? I was told not to take the tramadol with the oxcycodone. I am 1 year into this stuff and still have lots to learn. I read alot about the weight lose but I don't have that just the gas as you said and the pain the constant pain. You have already helped just by being there. Hey Lynn, Loyd has pretty much covered things about this crap sandwich we've been given to deal with and no it isn't fair and no it won't ever go away without you being the recepient(sp) of a modern day miracle. I would wish that for everyone who has this mess. This is one club I'd just as soon not be a member of!!!!! I've been dealing with this mess since october of 09 and almost died from my initial acute attack. Part of the problem was the doctors made an assumption that my acute attack was due to alcohol, not the case, but the doctors in the kansas hospital I wound up in made their decision and no matter the facts were sticking to it. Mine is actually genetic and was only properly diagnosed about a year and a half ago. Like Loyd I am always available to listen to yenting and will be happy to impart some or all of my journey to this point, and it ain't all pretty I warn you. I was so angry for so long that it took awhile to accept the fact that this is never going away, will only get worse, and ultimately will be the cause of my death many years before I should die, now that last part is only if they don't come up with something between now and then to prevent it. I asked every damned specialist I saw about that very topic, is this fatal and not one of them would answer me straight up it was always well maybe if this happens or that happens or well you get the idea. So in one of my more depressed days early on after asking a full dozen specialists I was at an appointment with my primary care doc for anemia and depression so I just asked her straight up is this going to be the cause of my demise, and barring accidents the answer from her was straight faced yes! That took me quite awhile to accept, my wife still won't accept it and often says I won't go until God is ready to bring me home, which I agree with but she can't seem to see how they mesh in my mind. Classic case of denial, so after all the babbling I do wish you good health and always a pain free day. Troy

You are most welcome, Lynn. I'm really glad I can help. I have been taking Norco, 10/325. The 10 refers to mg of hydrocodone and 325 is Acetaminophen (APAP). There are also 5/325 pills available. Hydrocdone is an opiate (also active ingredient in Vicodin) and the long-term effects are not encouraging but it does help some with breakthrough pain. The APAP can cause liver problems as well so I watch that real close; that's why I get the 10/325 to reduce APAP amounts which I think is worthless anyway. I recently saw the pain clinic at UCSF and they have me trying Gabepentin (Nuerontin), an anti-convulsent, as a possible substitute for opiates as it suppossedly is far less damaging long-term and has no addictive properties, again suppossedly. I think I am starting to feel some benefits from it and have seen a reduction in Norco I've needed the last couple of days. We'll see if it continues. Good luck. Thanks again for the help. I may ask about that but I can not take the acetaminophen part though We think that might be what caused the bile to block in the first place. Can't prove it yet but it breaks down in the liver and I had high numbers there too. Will let everyone know when I get back. Have a less pain day. God bless Lynn

My daughter has been on Gabepentin for about 6 or 7 years she has MS and it does help with the nerve pain and helps with the opates. She has no side effects yet.

That's why I mentioned the APAP levels since it can be reall nasty in and of itself. I did see a story on TV about Hydrocodone being made available in its pure form, eliminate the APAP. NOt sure that is avaialble yet but another possibility for you. Thanks for the info on Gabapentin. I seem to be benefiting some from taking it but very cautious about getting too excited. I sure hope so Twoduct! They do it with oxycodone- it just took a million years to figure out to do it with Hydrocodone, I guess!

Hey Loyd, yes the hydrocodone is available in it's pure form but it isn't called that, I forget now what it was they call it but all the medications with tylenol, aspirin, motrin you name it in them have all been available for some time the doctors just weren't willing to script them and I was told by a pain mgt. doctor down in Texas that was because as long as they were using the ones cut with tylenol or other apap items the DEA didn't look nearly as hard at their scripting as the doctors scripting all clean single chemical narcotics, those guys apparantly came in for some serious scrutiny and harassment by the DEA ands their jack booted thugs, not that I'm biased or anything. LOL...have a pain free day

tsj444 you offer up a soapbox but I must exercise restraint. :o) I'm from California and not too far from the recently raided Oaksterdam University and have very emphatic feelings about brutal constitutional violations perpatrated by the federal government. Now all the legitimate patients are forced into the black market.
