They can oftentimes do this kind of thing, in a similar way, with cirrhosis of the liver...where blood flow and, in this case, bile flow, can continue to function.

It's a management step, to provide comfort, in a bad, bad situation.

The prognosis is not good with pancreatic cancer and this step is but a step in the disease process.

Thank you Tigerpaws for your reply, we just keep hoping for a miracle, I know it is a very bad cancer, one of the wors't, to go from living life to the full, to not wanting to get out of bed, not being able to enjoy a meal or a drink, it is like a nightmare I'm really wanting to wake up from.

My husband lived fourteen weeks after getting the stent. It is a very lethal cancer. I hope the best for your friend.

Sorry to hear of your loss, thank you for your reply. Did you husband have any more Chemo after the Stent was placed?

My husband recieved the stent and then started chemo and a trial drug.
His tumor was around the arteries to his liver and pancreas. His tumor was small but in a place where he could not have surgery. The stent was placed because he started turning yellow.

My dad also just passed away 2 weeks ago with pancreatic cancer. His tumor was very large and in the body when he was diagnosed. He could have surgery but chose not to because of the affects of surgery. He was a healthy 85 year old. He chose no chemo and lived a year with good quality of life until the last eight weeks.

Hi Chris,
My friend is 61, her tumor is also attached to a main artery, so they can't operate. she came out of hospital today, and is in a lot of pain, the operation for the stent went through her liver, We hope to go see her tomorrow, her husband said she wasn't up for visitors today. Does she have verices, that is what started bleeding on my husband. he was also 61.

She has never mentioned verices, and I have never heard of it. Can you explain what it is, symptoms etc.

They are vericose viens in the stomach. They can rupture and bleed.

My husband, who is only 43, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in January. By the time they discovered it, the cancer had spread to his liver and all througout his abdomen. He was very jaundiced, including the whites of his eyes. His tumor wrapped around his bile duct. They placed a stint in his liver to drain the bile and it was a very painful procedure for him. It did work and he is no longer jaundiced. However, he can't eat or drink anything, he can't keep it down. He has lost over 60 pounds. This is a horrible, horrible disease with not much hope and it is so difficult having to watch the person you love get worse and worse and there isn't anything you can do to help.

So sorry to hear your husband has this dreadful cancer. They have now stopped the Chemo treatment for my friend they say it has not worked, and given her 3 - 6 months, a lady who just 6 months ago a beautiful fit lady with everything to live for was diagnosed. She has always looked after herself, ate the right things, not drank too much, or smoked, it so unfair, there is no justice. Just wish we could help in someway, but as you say there is nothing that can be done, just to be there for them.

Lindilou, there are trials that can be done if she is willing to travel. Also Cancer treament centers of America can give her total care if she qualifies with insurance. How was everyone diagnosed CT, MRI, endoscopy..

lindilou, I'm sorry your friend has this. I pray for a miracle for everyone here. This is such a horrible illness. There is so much sadness. There needs to be more medical research into that artery. If there could only be a bypass created some how. This isn't easy. I lost my Uncle to this terrible monster. It had spread to his Liver and Lung before it was even diagnosed. but I am a Survivor. I haven't heard of any definite cause for this but I am believing that there must be an Immediate Intense Episode of Stress. somewhere hidden in the history or even well known to others. I tell everyone that stress can kill you. Stay strong for your friend and I don't say this easily. I know how much Love hurts. I hurt just writing this.

Thank you to all who have replied to my post. It is not good news for my friend Brenda, she is now now just waiting to die, no more treatment, just more morphine, she has not eaten for over a week, I see her every day, but each day she is getting weaker. She is so very brave. Such a cruel illness, no one should go through it.
