There are not many patients on this board, mostly caregivers and relatives. Have you consulted with a gastroenterologist? That could be very helpful with digestive problems. A gastro doc is part of my care team. My situation is different than yours as surgery isn't possible and I have mets to distant sites so my care is palliative, but the gastro end is important. I take synthetic digestive enzymes, it is the only way I am still alive.

I had a cyst removed in October 2010 which ended up being a splenic cyst atttached to the pancreas. I have experienced all of those issues as well. I am not on antibiotics all of the time, just when I have even a slight fever. My medical team has expanded to include a gastroenterologist, an allergist, an endocrinologist, an infectious disease specialist in addition to my primary care physician and an OB/GYN. The gastroenterologist has prescribed probiotics for after each course of antibiotics which helps with GI and abdominal pain. The allergist is now monitoring food allergies which really was the first indication that I had some minor pancreatic insufficiency. I am now taking pancreatic enzymes with each meal. The endocrinologist is helping me through a pregnancy with some blood sugar issues. I had an elevated A1C prior to this pregnancy and fluctuating responses to blood sugar. I can eat the same meal two days in a row and get drastically different 2-hour blood sugar readings. I had the heart burn prior to surgery. I have IBS now. And there are times that sleep is a mystery. I so feel you. I hope that you are starting to understand your new normal and are cancer free.

I had the VERY SAME operation you, last November. However, before they removed my spleen the gave me four injections and I had wait over a week for them to take effect. The doctor told me that was to protect me, since I would no longer have a spleen, but that they would, and I could live a normal life with the spleen. So, my question is, Did you get the vaccinations you needed before the operation?
(I can go back over my records and give you the names of the vaccinations I was given.

I am no on a 6 wee protocol of Gemzare, to which the aide Deadron (a steroid) which counters the side effects, and Zofran, for nausea. Other than some major hair thinning, and fatigue, which I was told would build up as the chemo went on, I've experienced little in the way of side-effects. No nausea, vomiting throwing up or diarrhea.

Since they did this operation to remove a part of you pancreas, can I assume that the tumor was small and that there was no metastases found?

I am so sorry it has taken me so long to log back in.

It is now 4 years since my surgery, I feel a lot better from where I was but I do still suffer from low energy/fatigue at times. However, life is much better & I am able to lead a "normal" life. I'm bck at work and thinking of starting a family soon. I hope to ehar from you all too.

I had the same procedure done to me in a trauma setting though. I got the vaccinations afterwards. Ive noticed I struggle with the flu and keeping it away this year. I have alot of difficulty with my blood sugars and that could cause the low energy I know that's how it affected me. I finally got a doctor to believe that it's not normal for me and I am now taking insulin with any blood sugars over 140 and it's helped so much. I just have to be on a diet for the rest of my life. I've noticed pretty much alot of the problems your having are similar to mine.
