Over The Fence Community Group
A quote from one of our happy Over The Fence members: "Hi JS- Thank you for the welcome message. Do you remember that show Home Improvement and the neighbor Wilson Wilson Jr. who would meet Tim the Tool Man at the fence, but never showed anything but his eyes? He was so funny. This group reminds me of those encounters... you get the wisdom, humor, and support from your DS...
You heard the old saw,"It ain't over 'til the (fomerly) fat lady sings" Well.. I don't hear ya singing yet. From what you have described, of you current and past medical history, it would seem to indicate that a step up in the degree of care you will require is evident. Seek help to investigate what options are availiable to you. Then choose wisely and well.
I will light a healing candle and direct peaceful energy to you. d
The place she went to was very nice. Her only complaint was that she was living with too many old people!
In her last year she fell two other times because she insisted on climbing on chairs and doing other things that she was advised against. The second time she was hospitalized with a face full of bruises, looking like someone had beaten her. It was very sad. The staff found her and got her to the hospital right away.
Please do what you need to do to make sure you have help when you need it.
It is so scary to be alone and have something like this happen...I am surprised the hospital send back home alone.. The social workers are there to assist you in other choices.
I think it would be a good idea while making a decision as to what might be good for you, you should get " LIFE LINE" in the house, they will call family, or 911 for you yo get the help you need.
My Mom just went to Assisted Living after a fall in the house breaking her pelvic, she went to hospital, to rehab, to assisted living.
she was lucky, she got right away. There can be a waiting list..
It is private pay, so you need to see what you get for your money..
It was the best thing for her, she gets 3 meals a day, plus snacks.. Lots of things to due, so she is not alone all the time..hairdresser is there once a week, nails done once a week...trips out to eat,and local stores, and transportation if needed..
She has a big room, with bathroom, refrig, t.v., kitchen table, chair full size bed, night table, triple dresser..all bought from her home. And she can have computer.
It was an adjustment for her, but she feels safe, all her meds are also given to her. She is busy with P/T which she gets 3 x week..
as for me, being the only child. It has taken a big lot off my mind.. I visit often, and take her out often..but I sleep so much better at night knowing she is being taken care and looked after 24/7.
Hope this helps.....
I am shocked and very sorry to read about your latest adventure in the vhappy world of medicine,
I wonder whats happening to my prayers for you?they must be on hold up there.

your sis, Leslie
prayers are on the way....xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo
Prayers are with you, as always! Wow, I hope the social worker finds some programs for you that you feel comfortable giving a look into. Have you talked with anyone in your parish for ideas? You certainly need to be in a location with more involvement. Such as assisted living with a nurse on site who does rounds daily. That way you still have your independence but there is always someone nearby in case you need the help.
I think this serves as a wake up call for me and maybe several others here on OTFN. We joined DS because we were searching for information and/or a support network because we have some physical problems. (I was newly diagnosed with narcolepsy and wanted information.) What I found was a great group of people who are intelligent, compassionate, and witty. I forget when I am here that we have these other issues. Isn't that one of the reasons you started this thread? To help us feel "normal", to allow us to share with one another, to just be ourselves. Thank you for all you do NDY to provide OTFN for our mental health, take us outside ourselves and our problems, to escape. We love you!
Lovely picture, NOT! How scary!
Now about OTFN, you rest and take the time that you need. You have a strong group of people who are ready and willing to jump in there and keep things going. I am one of them. You rest and think and take care of yourself.
The last thing I want you to remember is that I love you!
Mert
Take care of yourself and keep me posted on your living arrangements if and when you get settled.
Dale
I'm so sorry you went through this. It must be a horrible experience.. I just got your email and I don't know what a TIA is. I'm assuming it is a pre-stroke event?
Anyhow, please think of how much you want to spend time with your grandchildren when deciding about assisted living or not. I hope you do not chance this happening again. There are various levels of assisted living. Ask the agency more about it so you can make the best decision for everyone including yourself. Get well soon.
