PENNSYLVANIA WAS VERY BEAUTIFUL; EVEN IN WINTER. I WAS CLEAR ACROSS THE LOWER STATE AND BACK BY CAR. LOVED THE DRIVE.

NDY, your story reminded me of when my grandmother had a TIA (this was all the way back in '93) and because she lived on her own with just a visiting nurse (that wasn't visiting on that day) the only way we happened to catch it was because my mom happened to call her and noticed her voice sounded odd on the phone...she had had a stroke back in the '70s and my mom's a nurse so she figured out what it was and got in touch with someone to get her help. But my grandmother refused to ever leave her apartment because it was her home even though everyone tried to convince her she would be better off moving into a facility or even moving in with someone because she lived an hour away from anyone in the family being able to get to her. Not to scare you but she did wind up having a full blown stroke. We don't know how long she was unconcious on her kitchen floor either because the aide never had a key (my grandmother didn't trust any non-family with a key to her place) and it was a few days before anyone was contacted because she wasn't answering her door. SHe was in a coma for months before my mom and her siblings agree to take her off supports and she still hung on for a little after that before she passed. I'm not saying this will happen to you (God willing it will not) but considering your health circumstances, it is probably in your best interests to look into assisted living. It might be good to sit down with some family to discuss the situation and get their help to find the right place for you (someplace that will allow you to still visit with us here, of course!). It does sound like you could use a place with more frequent care and someone regularly checking in with you and making sure you are okay and can provide immediate emergency services should something happen again.

At least you didn't break any bones...bruises heal faster (right?) and in the meantime you're as colorful as a rainbow! You are in my thoughts, my friend.

Bookie ~ Once again you've saved the day! I found the one care home that I was going to look up tomorrow and got me a great agency in the interim !! You are the best friend to do this home work for me as I am not feeling too wonderful right now !!

TES ~ One of the hardest things to do as you age is to admit your limitations; one of the biggest challenges I believe is to reinvent yourself & develop the skills that remain.

This past week, I helped the health ministry at our church to develop a fund raising/ PSA for a youth health fair event to merchants and organizations in our area. At the same time, I am disappointed in having to abandon some plans that i had long range for this site...

Fortunately, for OTFN we have some very talented admins who are already proving their worth in my absence...Not only while in the hospital but in this past month of January after suffering a previous TIA on Jan23 when I spent 2 days in the hospital.

I founded his site as a personal touch for those who wanted to use the threads for their own discussion and nurtured hand picked great admins who could provide substantial threads of their own to give OTFN substance.as well. I feel that OTFN is accomplishing that. I just wish more of our Good Neighbors would take advantage of raising their own topics without having to maintain the ardors of being the founder.

I am going to be fading more into the background to maintain the daily grind and encourage others to create their own topics whatever y'all's want...

Let's lighten up ~ add some gaieity & humor but keep our friendly controversry... I would ask those of our Good Neighbors that love Over The Fence to originate some topics here maybe even for the first time and keep our beloved neighborhood going !

This is horrible news! I'm so sorry you had this happen to you, but am glad that you are home now and hopefully resting. My thoughts and prayers will be for you.

Kayce1970 is in a permanent "home" and you may want to look her up and chat with her. She is in a facility that is not a nursing home, and not a hospital - a kind of like go between facility. Maybe this is not what you are looking for, but she is a very nice woman, and you may find some good advice from her.

Again, I'm so sorry you had this horrible fall. It sounds pretty bad, but I guess it could have been worse. Take care of yourself! Lynne

I am sorry to hear about your TIA, but glad that you are better and home. Home--there's no place like it. Personally, I would try to get someone to come in to help you. You could check into some agencies that send out nurses or caregivers so you wouldn't have to leave your home. Many years ago, I worked for such an agency as a caregiver. I did some grocery shopping or other errands, light cleaning, even just being there for companionship. It sounds like this might be helpful for you. You have my prayers. May the Lord bless you with strength day by day.

It is hard to give advice since I do not know your complete circumstances.The idea situation if you could get a one floor apartment right near a family member That could help you out and check on you.They are trying to put my parents in assisting living which take everything from you adventuly.I am trying to get my parents to cell their large home go on one floor.Sell some of their antiques so they can get a scooter.Live in these house that would be in between me and my sister.They are located across the street from shop rite and a block from a coffee shop.My dad is 82 mom is 78.He dont want to let go of his family antiques but there is no one to take them when he is gone and he can not take them with him.Anything he has I can hold on to I will.Only if I can buy them.This is a major decisions please take in all your choices before making a desiition.

I am in a government program already & have a caregiver 6 hrs a day. Both events took place upon waking when they were not present. When experiencing a TIA I am not fully conscious as it mimics your former stroke episode.

When I had my stroke in Feb, '09, I was paralyzed for 8 hrs on my right side.. When experiencing my TIAs, so far I have had 3, I am not fully aware of what is taking place. All I could think of was that I had to turn off the alarm and then i had to go pee. That was that.

I am going to start to sleep later and get up after my care giver comes in. All I have to do at this point is to make sure that they are reliable and punctual.Today, I am talking with my case manager to line up that agency Bookie recommended so I have a fallback in case something would happen to one of my care givers. I already gave one her notice & hired a new girl who will start when her clearances come in.

However, I am not kidding myself.. I am going to start spending more time with my grand kids right now and as my health deteriorates will check into assisted living or intermediate care. I want to make arrangements now for in the future when the inevitable takes place.

I had my daughter take a photo of me in a tank top so y'all's can see how "great" I look right now ... As soon as her network comes up you will see me in "tech-no-color rainbow from the Dark Side" (I just wanted you to see how bad I got it this time & understand that I am not exaggerating the situation...)

That is why I appealed to y'all's to keep the freedom of our OTF Neighborhood goin... Go ahead, call it beggin, I don't care.. Never been too proud fer dat. !
