Hi Teresa.. So sorry that have had to go through this at such a young age.. I am 55 and my hair grew back very quickly.. it will start to grow pretty much immediately.. two, three four, weeks and you should start to feel some soft stubble.

As you are so young, it might grow back stronger than mine did, or it might be like mine was.. First it came back very soft and fine.. really pretty like baby hair.. but it was quite white.. Apparently the hair follicles repair before the hair pigment cells do.. so don't be alarmed it it comes back white or grey.. eventually the colour comes back too..

When the stronger, darker hair kicked in, I decided that it looked a bit odd and uneven, so shaved it all off and started again.. That would have been after about two months tops..


After that, I am very pleased to let you know that it grew fast, thick and strong.. better than it had been in many years.. it even had some waves in it, which looked great when it was short still.. After I needed a trim the waves disappeared, which was a shame.. but it really is better, healthier hair than I have had in years..

I have had long hair all my life but now I like to keep it just down my neck and layered as this suits me at my age. I have regular trims so haven't grown it any longer. past the ears and in a healthy state I would say about four, five months.. but you have age on your side.. so could be sooner.

I have enjoyed experimenting with different styles along the way and discovering that so many things suit me which I thought wouldn't.. Regular trims will keep it healthy looking.. go for quality rather than speed.. It's like a new beginning with the hair thing after chemo and we seem to benefit from that..

Hi Teresa, I had my last treatment 7 weeks ago today. I am just this week getting eyelashes and eyebrows back. So that's kind of nice. I have a very fine halo of new hair growth on my head that is about a third of an inch long. I'm 40 years older than you (YIKES!) and at first I thought all my hair was growing back pure white but now that I'm slightly past the first stubble, there's some dark brown in the mix too. I don't know how fast hair grows - I think 1/4 to 1/2 an inch per month. I guess you can calculate how long it will take to get to the length you want. Best wishes, Janet

I had 3' foot long Angel/Barbie hair. I so miss it and my life, health and wellness. I live in unbearable pain too. But if you're that young. It should come in and grow faster for you! I'm suspecting too it grows faster in summer. I hope it comes in how you like it. Mine seemed to be blond and now is gray. I may have one whole inch"! I know I hate how I look. Though I'm told I'm cute! I stopped at night whipping my hair like I used to. I did swing it the other day.. I guess I still do things out of habit. I bet yours grows faster. I'm 25, so you're not alone in the young girl boat! I haven't had chemo or anything yet, but a friend at work has. She's pretty young too. Her hair started growing back very quickly once her chemo was done. My hair is several feet long and thick dark brown. I don't want to lose it, but I intend to cut it and donate it to Locks of Love if I require chemo. They won't take the hair if its been radiated from chemo, so I am gonna chop it off as soon as I get news whether I need chemo or not.

Hi, I know about your worry about hair growth, and actualy asked the same question before. Inka was the one that reassured me all would be well quickly and she was right. I had my last treatment Feb 5th 2010 it started growing back in May. And my hair is now a good 5 inches long. Mind you I have had hair cuts to keep it looking good. Trust me on this...you must get hair cuts! Even though you are aching for it to grow long it all grows at the same time creating a mullet in the back. My hairdresser understood completely what I was going through and he has not touched the top of my hair yet.
It will feel like its taking forever but thats ok, its coming back! And its crazy how many people keep telling me to keep it short even though I will not, I want my long hair too! Another thing no one told me is it takes awhile after treatment, remember you still have a dose of that chemo in you right now. Do not freak out if some grows in and then falls out. My Dr. explained to me I was like a puppy, it all was growing and sheading at the same time because chemo stopped its natural cycle and had to get back into the cycle of growing at different rates, that goes with all hair. But once it does you will be good to go! You will be buying pretty things for your hair before you know it!! Remember..a good hair stylest!! That's the key! Also eat your vitamins..it'll help imenssely for the growth of your hair! (I don't eat mine enough)

You will be very surprised at how fast it comes in! I'm currently having another chemo that doesn't make me lose my hair, but I was bald in 09 and had my last Taxol at the end of June and I got married in June of this year and it was ear length and very curly! I never had curly hair before! I had many haircuts to keep it looking fashionable (as Renee said, it grows at the same time so you really do end up with a mullet if you don't get cuts!).
You may end up really liking your new short hair. I always had long hair and never thought I'd end up liking short hair, but I found it suits me and it's so easy that after my wedding I got a pixie cut again! I always used to get bored with my color and change it frequently and since I've gone completely organic, I'm also using organic hair dye from Whole Foods that really works well.

It has been a full year since my last Chemo. My hair was slow to start - almost 2 months - but after a slow start it grew very fast. I've only had one cut. My naturally straight hair came back in with Chemo Curls. At this point (1 year) it is chin length - if you straighten out the curls.
So I bet that your hair will be to your chin in a year and to your shoulders in two years. Make sure you "baby" your fragile hair with really great conditioners.
