Had my 1st treatment Thursday. I had an allergic reaction to my Taxol. I broke out in hives and my throat felt like I was being stuck with needles. It kind of scared me. But I did very well with the slower drip. Had no allergic reaction to that. So instead of 3 hours of it, I had 6 hours of it. I ended up getting transferred to inpatient, due to the infusion center closing at 530pm and the Taxol wouldnt be done til at least 7. Then I still needed cisplatin in my belly. My 6-8 hour day turned into 15 hours!

This morning when I woke up I felt like I got hit by a bus. I was very sore. Especially in my rib, shoulder, and tummy area. It really hurts when I get the hick-ups. It's very uncomfortable.

Does anyone know how long this lasts for?

Hi,

I just saw this post as I was reading around. Not sure if it has gotten better for you. My soreness and generally the worst bit always lasted about 3-4 days getting gradually longer the further I got into treatment. My treatments always lasted 6-7 hours and I was a 4hour roundtrip drive from the Cancer Center so it made for a bloody long day. The good news is there are lots of drugs they can use to tweak out as much of the discomfort as possible for you just make sure to tell them everything and push them to help you if they don't. My cancer center nurses were fantastic so they always tried their best to make everyone as comfy as possible. Hope this latest round has gone better!

Hi I too, had a similar reaction to Taxol. It had to be administer slower also. I seem to feel OK until the 3rd or 4th day after treatment. It felt, to me, like the Flu but 3 times worse. After the 4th day, I seem to get better with each day.

I was able to do the IV Taxol just fine this time. Even though they gave me 120mg of steroids. I was sure hyped up that day. But after I get treatment I always get this horrible cough and it hurts really bad. My chemo nurse listened to me and said my lungs are clear. Have you had this before?

I never experienced painful coughing. I had a bit but more so in my throat and they said it was because of the sores that chemo can cause inside your mouth and throat so it felt like I had a tickle in my throat and when I coughed it irritated the sores. They gave me a special medicine for the sores but I didn't find it helped much.

I usually felt tired the first day after chemo. The third and fourth day were the hardest for me as my joints really hurt. However, the doctor had me take Emend and compazine for any nausea and I took acetomenophin for pain. After day 4 I usually started feeling good very quickly.

I hope the chemo goes well for you. I know that the first one is the worst.
