Most doctors I have been to seem to brush it off but it does cause issues with me. I also have Lupus and migraines but the worst part about the MVP is the dysautonomia. It helped to look up the symptoms of it on wikipedia and realizing that this all isn't in my head. I've never found a medicine that helped it, but dietary changes and supplements help. My pulse is normally in the 100-110 bpm range which is super annoying.
I've lived with it a long time and my mother and siblings have it, so if you have any questions I'd be glad to help. *hugs*
I have been told by some doctors that I have it. Most of the time they say it doesn't usually cause too many problems. I have noticed that stress can make it a lot worse. The symptoms that mine causes me is shortness of breath when I do anything that involves movement or when I lay down. Also my heart rate gets pretty high when I do anything athletic. Sometimes my heart suddenly pounds a lot harder or pounds harder and then skips beats. That kind of freaks me out sometimes and I've always wondered if I should see an actual cardiologist eventually if I start having that happen again more frequently like it was at one point.
Both of my grandfathers have/had it. One of my grandfathers never had any problems. The other had mitral valve prolapse that seemed to get worse and worse. He has had a lot of heart trouble and is now in congenital heart failure. I don't think he is the norm though.
I have been told by my doctor that mitral valve prolapse can turn into a heart murmur in rare cases. Also that The American Heart Association used to require people with MVP to take antibiotics before having any kind of dental check up or work. This is because if your blood gets infected it can cause serious complications if you have MVP. It can cause a blood infection and having the messed up valve can cause the infected blood to reach your heart quickly. They don't require people to take antibiotics anymore but the dentist I have makes me take them.
I have also heard that stress (on the body or the mind) can cause complications with this.
However, many people have MVP and never know. It is actually rather hard to diagnose and many people are adults before a doctor ever notices it, if they even do. So I wouldn't worry too much but just keep in mind to be safe rather than sorry if she starts having weird symptoms.

Background: i use to think all this condition of mine started because of the use of valium 5mg, because i had a problem of excessive night falls and i was an athlete, because of the nightfalls i used to feel fatigued and used to have lower back pain so i thought to seek a sexologist, unfortunately in our city we do not have any sexologist, so for the cure i went to a gynacologist, he gave me valium 5m and asked me take it half in morning half before sleeping i did the same, but after taking it for 3 months i had attacks while sleeping for two times attack was like my blood is flowing backward and it made me wake up even in sleep i went to emergency but all were normal but after six months i had another attack while playing it was a sharp stabbing pain and its like i was going through a heart attack and from that day till now i feel all these symptoms that i mentioned
