I can't even tell you where I read it as I have read so much about behavioral challenges in kids but this really makes sense, it's ironic, but true.

'The times our kids are at their worst are the times they need us to love them the most.'

I am also reading a new book (on my new Kindle Fire!) it's called Lost at School by Ross Greene. this book addresses behavioral issues kids like ours have at school. Since this is where my son struggles the most I made this my first book purchase for my Kindle. I am only a fifth of the way into the book but one of the things the author says is that kids like ours are not being manipulative, in fact, they are not even capable of being manipulative. It's very interesting, I hope to get some really good advice/insight on how to help my son be more regulated when it come to school by the time he hits high school next year...preferrably not in Alternative school! Has anyone here read this book? If so, what are your thoughts?

I haven't read it, but it sounds interesting. I am currently reading "The motivation breakthrough: 6 secrets to turning on the tuned out child" Since my child hates school and is only in 2nd grade I was looking for anything that might help. It puts children into categories of motivation. My child fits into the power motivated category, because he always wants to be in control. I haven't read it all, but it is supposed to teach you how to motivate your child in school and life according to the category he/she falls in. I would love to hear if your book is helpful. I am always looking for reads that will help me parent my son better.

I hope to read a lot more of the book tonight since I don't have to take my son anywhere and have no errands to run. It sucks when kids hate school. Both of my kids hated school but my oldest who is now in college is very smart so he passed with decent grades and very little effort, my youngest has learning disabilities and has given up. I have been working with the school(s) for so long and it seems every thing we try fails or works for a few weeks then we are back to square 1. If I can't figure out how to help him soon, I may seriously consider homeschooling him for high school...God help me if I do! :-) I'll let you know what I think of the book when I am done reading it, hopefully by the end of this week.

Aestu-You certainly have a lot of opinions today. I wonder if you are just a very bored person with nothing better to do than to insult the parents on this site to fill your day or if you have actually parented a child with a disorder successfully. It is not my priority to make myself feel like a good parent, it is about trying to find a way to help my son with his issues as he seems not be motivated to do it himself. I have read a lot of books of which I have agreed with and disagreed with. I have taken parenting classes and gone to therapy and have been to several meeting at his school over the years. I do not do this for myself, I do it for him because I am his mother and I love him and I am the only person that will do this for him. If I want to feel better about myself, I go to my personal therapist, I talk to my friends on this SUPPORT Group. We have all pretty much came on this site and posted some pretty bad things about our kids, but this is a safe site where we can vent and say things in anger without our kids hearing it, because most of the time we really don't mean it. It's the anger and frustration of us having to watch our kids go through this and at times it certainly takes a toll on our family and personal lives.

Your response idicates that part of being a good parent is facing challenge. I would have to say given all of the challenges the parents on this site face, we are pretty damn good parents.

Thank you rockym! I agree one hundred percent. I read books to learn, not to agree or disagree with. I want to give my son what he needs to grow up and lead a happy, productive life what ever that may be. I know I don't have all the answers, so I turn to books and therapy as needed. I hope this remains a site where we can all share our struggles, insecurities and successes without feeling judged or looked down on. Aestu, this may not be the right support group for you if you can't understand what the other's that come here are going through.
