Medication compliance

My son is 7 and has ODD and ADD. He takes Focalin in the morning before school. It is real difficult for me to get him to take his medication. I have tried talking to him about how his medication is helpful. I have tried rewards, I have tried taking things away. I have tried mixing the medicine with ice cream, applesauce, and pudding. Does anyone have any tricks that have helped with this kind of problem? I would really appreciate any suggestions. Thank you.

I hope this will help. My grandson age 7 had a medication that we put into yogurt but just a tiny bit. He wasn't very resistant most of the time. My daughter took away privileges when he refused. It is hard to make them understand sometimes I think. The items taken away seemed to work most of the time. I don't know what your son enjoys doing, computer or Xbox, PS something like that? Maybe give this a try and see. Also, my grandson was in therapy too and we had the support of a Behavioral Therapist (that is what I called her) come to our house too. Is there anything like that available where you are?? Like the people that will come and work one on one with you? It seemed to help a lot too. Just suggestions. Good luck.

This was my post, just to fill everyone in, we went to a liquid medication for ADD, Quillivant XR. My son is taking it with little problem now. He doesn't mind the taste. The daily medication, power struggle has ended. He didn't like the taste or texture of the other medication. I hope this helps someone...

Our 6 year old son was on Quillivant XR also but was still having a difficult time in school and home. We bumped it from 1 1/2 mil to 2mil but would see a lot of ODD when he was coming down from it.
Just this weekend his doctor put him on the Daytrana patch 10mg. We think that was to much for him so we tried to cut it in half to 5mg. Still having a hard time but I know sometimes adjusting can take a few days. Praying that we find the right medication and dose really soon! I know he's not happy....
