Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD) Support Group
Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD) an ongoing pattern of disobedient, hostile, and defiant behavior toward authority figures that goes beyond the bounds of normal childhood behavior. When a child cannot seem to control his anger or frustration, even over what seems to be trivial or simple to others, the child will often react in violent or negative ways to his own...
I just posted a recommended reading--it really troubled me called "I am Adam Lanzas Mother". gawkers.com
She is NOT his mother-she has a 13 year old with O.D.D. Her story broke my heart, and the people who responded to her article were absolutely clueless.
NO ONE knows what it is like to have "our" children..
It's making me re-think the meds my 11 year old is on.. Am going to get a second opinion.
I told my son last night that if he speaks about ending his life just one more time that i will be forced to take him to a hospital..
I don't know if this is right or wrong..
Thanks for your post--I'll bet every Mom in the world hugged their kids quite a bit more than usual..
All the best~~
Currently, and to be honest, I have not really disciplined him lately because I am afraid that he will become disturbed. He is sensitive to sound and gets very upset with consequences.
I have however, told him about how it is with my bipolar disorder and I have said that if he ever does anything violent or overtly inappropriate, that I will put him in the hospital or incarcerate him.
I have told him that I can tolerate a bit of loudness at home, or I can tolerate assisting him with cleaning up but I cannot abide loudness out in public and I cannot abide anythign like throwing things or taking any violent action (which he has NOT SHOWN anything overtly violent yet, just aggressive).
I also tolerate things like him making mud pies in the front yard and other boy things because WE ARE NOT ALLOWING OUR BOYS TO BE BOYS.
The only thing is though, where to draw the line. If a boy does have a sickness, then when do we draw that line of what games should he play or not play on the computer.
And further, what about the medications? Do they really help or not?
