Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD) Support Group
Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD) an ongoing pattern of disobedient, hostile, and defiant behavior toward authority figures that goes beyond the bounds of normal childhood behavior. When a child cannot seem to control his anger or frustration, even over what seems to be trivial or simple to others, the child will often react in violent or negative ways to his own...
Drastic consequences for drastic behavior. Sometimes you have to do it to get your point across.
For this situation. I threw her in the back seat of the car. Child locks on the door and windows. and I started driving down the interstate. I told my husband what was going on and told him I was coming to him. SHE FREAKED! "you don't love me anymore"... "I hate you"... then the longer I was driving.. "I'm sorry mommy", "I love you mommy", "I promise not to be bad anymore". But once you set a consequence.. you have to fulfill it. I drove from middle georgia that night to Tenn because thats where my husband was currently at and I dropped her off with him. He is an OTR driver and she hated it. She had to do what he had to do. If he was up, she was up. She couldn't go potty when she wanted. She didn't have a t.v. or radio. NOTHING. When she was finally able to sleep it was for only a few hours before they had to start moving again. Crazy part.. this was for only one night because he was already on his way home. But now, she is scared that she is going to have to go back in that truck.
Drastic consequences can sometimes help. When you get to that point you'll realize what consequence will work. Go ahead and discuss with your wife now what might work. But try to think of something that they won't like but won't last forever.
Another example. I have a friend that lives in the country. Mel was giving me such a hard time. She showed up one morning and told me she was going to take Mel for the day. She and her husband put her to work all day. Nothing crazy... but sweep, help them with the yard work. But the point was she did not have fun and her anger wasn't directed at me. By the time I came to get her I was the most awesome person and she acted good for quite some time!
