Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD) an ongoing pattern of disobedient, hostile, and defiant behavior toward authority figures that goes beyond the bounds of normal childhood behavior. When a child cannot seem to control his anger or frustration, even over what seems to be trivial or simple to others, the child will often react in violent or negative ways to his own...
The bedtime tantrums have been something that have come and gone with my son too. He's 11 now, and finds other ways to 'avoid' bed, but usually it's because he can't sleep and he doesn't want to sit in the dark for hours until he gets tired. I let him read now that he's older. Maybe some soothing music? I wish I had a better suggestion for you.
I usually start my son really early about getting ready for bed. So that by the time bedtime roles around he is "prepped". I have done the classical channel on the radio and then turning it off when I go to bed myself. That seemed to have worked out well.
Tonight he said he was going to read to himself because I only read him a few pages and that wasn't enough for him. I had to remind him that it was getting late and I didn't want him to be late for school. (Which that has been a problem this year because his school picks him up a whole hour earlier than last year. --8a.m. pickup) So I let him read to himself a book he wanted to read.
Ease up a bit, try to fight the battles worth fighting. I don't fight bedtime because I know that he will be the one tired in the morning. I will lay his clothes out tonight for him but usually when we aren't so tight on bedtime, he'll do it himself or even go to bed with his uniform on. (Hey that cuts the morning tardiness.)
