Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a psychiatric disorder, more specifically, an anxiety disorder. OCD is manifested in a variety of forms, but is most commonly characterized by a subject's obsessive (repetitive, distressing, intrusive) thoughts and related compulsions (tasks or rituals) which attempt to neutralize the obsessions.

Since nursing school started (I'm second semester), I have found that SO many people have what is considered "mental disorders/ illnesses", but that should not define who you are. The fact that you're seeking treatment is proof that you're smart and this is a big step to increase your "mental health" (which is just as important as your physical health). One statement that I have heard in my psychiatric rotation in nursing school is that treating or seeking treatment for a mental illness is no different from seeking treatment for a physical condition such as diabetes or hypertension. You're trying to improve your livelihood and that's awesome!
