Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a psychiatric disorder, more specifically, an anxiety disorder. OCD is manifested in a variety of forms, but is most commonly characterized by a subject's obsessive (repetitive, distressing, intrusive) thoughts and related compulsions (tasks or rituals) which attempt to neutralize the obsessions.
Does anyone else feel like when they are doing OCD rituals that they are like very calm, cool, and just totally focused on completeing the ritual. This is what happens to me and it is such a weird experience because I am almost like in a trance and I cannot even hear what is going on around me. Anyone else like this?

I get like that at times but it's really bad for me. When i get like that and finally snap out of it, it's like i can't remember what i was doing. So i would have to do it all over again. I have a really hard time concentrating. So when i'm in a trance like state my mind starts to wander and i lose track of what i was doing. It really sucks. So i have to make sure i focus but not daydream. Hope it helps.

It's been explained to me that when we perform our rituals, whatever they may be, our brains release chemicals that anesthetize us to a degree. It's that hit that keeps us coming back to the ritual again and again. I find that fascinating. It explains to me why cutting for some or skin picking for others actually feels good.

I go into trance like states about 90% of the day. I also have MS, so my neurologist thinks it may be mini seizures. My OCD is checking the stove, iron, doors and electrical appliances.My trances are so bad until I can no longer drive. This OCD thing sucks huh? Much love, Carla

Justbreath, that makes total sense about the need to do it over again because you cannot remember if you did it.

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper?
