Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) Support Group
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a psychiatric disorder, more specifically, an anxiety disorder. OCD is manifested in a variety of forms, but is most commonly characterized by a subject's obsessive (repetitive, distressing, intrusive) thoughts and related compulsions (tasks or rituals) which attempt to neutralize the obsessions.

Sometimes I wonder why people with OCD ask for reassurance so much. I mean I get the whole concept of seeking comfort, but I know at least for me when my mind is set on an OCD obsession or compulsion there is nothing anyone can say to comfort me or to get me to think rationally about the thought or situation.

I understand what your saying. For me it depends what I am obsessing over if its something small, reassurance from other people does help, but if its something major I am so asshamed to admit what m feeling that nthing helps. I think it just depends on the severity of the thought and the person.

I need constant reassurance, I ask my Hubby to tell me that everything is ok so much. It comforts me.

I wonder for myself if it is taking some of the responsibility off myself. It is like we doubt ourselves.

Yes, Rocket. I think it's because of the doubt. I used to be a lot worse about this than I am now. I kind of think that as far as OCD being (please forgive me) annoying to others, this is the worst. Constantly checking with someone to make sure you're OK and upping the ante every time you seek reassurance can wear majorly on loved ones. I had to live with extreme discomfort for a while as I finally gave up doing this. I have to be diligent that I don't do it surreptitiously, convincing myself that I'm not really checking. I mean to say this was HARD!! But freedom from it sooo much better!!!!

I think for many of us, it provides a bit of temporary relief. Like for me, when I have really bad thoughts and then feel like I HAVE to confess them to make my anxiety go away, being reassured that other people have the same type of thoughts, too ... it helps me feel a little better at that moment.

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
