Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) Support Group
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a psychiatric disorder, more specifically, an anxiety disorder. OCD is manifested in a variety of forms, but is most commonly characterized by a subject's obsessive (repetitive, distressing, intrusive) thoughts and related compulsions (tasks or rituals) which attempt to neutralize the obsessions.

I first got OCD about 5 years ago. With therapy I learned to manage it. With new dresses I have had a relapse. At first I thought I could handle it but it quickly became too much for me. I am now on celexa. But I'm still having alot of struggles with the OCD and anxiety. Has anyone had a relapse who could tell me what to expect? I feel very discouraged and depressed. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi, I'm sorry you've been struggling. OCD is definitely a stressful situation. We are just too detail-oriented sometimes and think more than the average Joe. In the past, I've found that whenever I've resolved one class of fears, another would spring up to take its place. I don't know if that's because our minds can only handle so much at a time or its because OCD needs to feed on something. But there can be great periods of tranquility and I found these periods get longer and longer as your mind gradually learns to cope with OCD. A lot of patience is required but I think that is the general pattern. In the meantime you could keep researching the theories (causation, symptoms, treatment...) and logic behind OCD. Knowledge goes a long way. Best of luck!

Try CBT therapy. Read the book "Brain lock" it will change your life if you work the program. God bless you.

OCD does not go away but generally lessens in intensity over time. I have been there when I was so disappointed that my OCD reared its ugly head to mess up my plans of peacefulness. Hang in there. Try a different med. Celexa never did anything for me. Clomipromine has been very helpful. Luvox was also helpful.

Thank you everyone for your replies. Yes over time I am feeling so much better. And the OCD has lessened to very little again and continues to get better. Blessings to you

I am in in the middle of a relapse right now and I know the change in medication is not the answer I have to deal with the stressors in my life because that is what tends to bring on the relapse I do what I need to do to take care of myself which right now I'm on an intermittent leave from work because my symptoms act up in the morning so instead of losing my job I take hours off and get there when I get there. I know that this will pass and then I will get back on track again I don't know if that was helpful
