Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) Support Group
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a psychiatric disorder, more specifically, an anxiety disorder. OCD is manifested in a variety of forms, but is most commonly characterized by a subject's obsessive (repetitive, distressing, intrusive) thoughts and related compulsions (tasks or rituals) which attempt to neutralize the obsessions.
Some of my compulsions are even beneficial (i.e. checking the stove burners over and over). But when I dig down to the roots of my OCD and anxiety, there's a lot of pain there, and a lot of weakness, and a lot of fear. I don't want to live in fear. That's why I want to get better.
Now, catch me on a bad day, I may give a more pessimistic response. But I remain commited to recovery--maybe not total, but enough so that I can accomplish what I want to without my OCD holding me back.
