Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) Support Group
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a psychiatric disorder, more specifically, an anxiety disorder. OCD is manifested in a variety of forms, but is most commonly characterized by a subject's obsessive (repetitive, distressing, intrusive) thoughts and related compulsions (tasks or rituals) which attempt to neutralize the obsessions.
Nice to meet you Mrs. Beach.
I hope that this group can help you feel better. We're all in the same boat.
Mine tends to torment me with fears that my home of over 30 years will be taken from me (by a wildfire or condemned by an inspector) or that I am obliged to do some embarassing and difficult thing or I will be damned to Hell (Send money to people from my distant past, look up and apologise to former coworkers, tell authorities on neighbors and relatives who are breaking local laws--anything I really do NOT want to do!)
I have also had health OCD (checking a spot over and over for signs of skin cancer, making a breast sore from searching over and over for "abnormal" areas) , and quite often when I send a check in the mail I end up opening it to make sure I didn't forget something.
What helps? Exercise does. So does 5-HTP, which I used to take with Inositol powder , until I learned that inositol powder is used by cocaine dealers to cut their drug and I got paranoid about ordering so much of the stuff over the internet. This forum is an immense help , as well.
Thank you all for being there!
I don't let the thoughts effect me. I know they are messed up and irrational and not me. They don't give me anxiety anymore. But everyday they are there and it's made me not care if I die anymore. It's sad but true. I don't want to die but if I got sick and died I wouldn't be scared. I know we all die and before I wanted to live forever but not like this. I'm 30 and maybe have a long time to live with this. I'm going to work, playing with my kids, keeping busy because I want and need to. I'm not going to let it depress me. It's very very messed up that my brain won't move on. I wish I could take it out and stomp the crap out of it. I love my hobbies but my ocd gets through once in a while and intrudes on them.
We only live once so F it. Let's jut deal with this BS the best we can. I wish my could go back to a year ago. But it won't. Soooooo. Hello ocd life. I'm going to dominate you even with a clouded brain.
OCD would like nothing better than to deprive you of what means the most to you, which is your family, and if you should give up and leave them or stop interacting with them, it will find something just as painful to torment you with.
Hang on there!
like when I am around a black person the word "nigger" continuously pops into my head over and over. or if I am around a kid the phrase "child mollestor". this is what I deal with everyday. its stupid.
