Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) Support Group
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a psychiatric disorder, more specifically, an anxiety disorder. OCD is manifested in a variety of forms, but is most commonly characterized by a subject's obsessive (repetitive, distressing, intrusive) thoughts and related compulsions (tasks or rituals) which attempt to neutralize the obsessions.
My intrusive thoughts range from being a school shooter to pushing someone down a flight of stairs and very many others. I wouldn't conceive of actually ever doing anything like this. The thoughts pop in my anxiety goes up, I perform a ritual and the anxiety goes down. The nasty loop is there once again.
Try to switch your mind to a more pleasant thought as difficult as it may be or if this is becoming overwhelming at any particular time, look for added stessors in your life that you may be able to modify in some way. Are you on any meds for your symptoms?
Am I hallucinating?
Do I hear voices from outside my head?
Do I feel that I am a god or a great genius?
Do I feel the FBI is conspiring against me?
Do I feel that peope are reading my mind or that my thoughts are being broadcast on loudspeakers?
Generally the answer to these questions is no. It helps me feel better anyway.
