Hi all,
I wanted to ask for your advice regarding my daughter in law. She says she has OCD. She's been with my son for about eight years and I have observed her behavior as a little controlling over the years but we've always gotten along well. We were very close when my son lived at home but once they married, she has only been to my home about four times in the last three years. My problem is, I have a grandson (my only grandchild) who is about three years old. She has only allowed me to babysit him once during this time. Her mother and dad have been allowed to babysit every day but I'm pretty much left out. I have tried every approach I can think of to just be allowed some one-on-one time with him. I work full time but am off work every weekend and every other Friday.
I just can't seem to get any regular time with my grandson. In the meantime, my daughter in law is posting all of these videos of her parents playing with him and I feel like he doesn't even know me and it hurts me terribly.
Now, there's a second baby due this month. I told her this weekend that it really hurts me that I don't have much time with my grandson and I've love the chance for one on one. The only thing she says is that she'll come and meet me for lunch during my workday and bring my grandson. That's all I'm getting from her. My son is pretty much resigned to whatever his wife wants.
Do you have any advice for me on what I can do or say to change this? Not sure if this is an OCD behavior so I thought I'd ask.

My daughter in law has a twin sister who did the same thing to her mother in law. I saw her sister make a posting about her mother in law on Facebook a few years before stating that she will never get to babysit. I asked her about it then and said how hurtful it was and how I hope that never happens to me and it's been the same treatment. My daughter in law's family home schooled their children and they have their own church in their mobile home complex. I recognize that their sphere of contacts with others might be pretty small and maybe this is part of the problem.
I've never done drugs, don't smoke, rarely drink, and was a good single parent raising both of my sons. I have passed a background check as I work for a law enforcement agency. Not even had so much as a speeding ticket.
Thanks for letting me vent this out. It just makes me feel so very sad and it seems as though there's nothing I can do about it.
