Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) Support Group
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a psychiatric disorder, more specifically, an anxiety disorder. OCD is manifested in a variety of forms, but is most commonly characterized by a subject's obsessive (repetitive, distressing, intrusive) thoughts and related compulsions (tasks or rituals) which attempt to neutralize the obsessions.
I also never take things in the store that are in the front. I always go back 2 or 3 items to get an "untouched" one. I never thought of that as OCD, it just made sense to get a nice, new one!
Also wanted to add KOKOKITTY YOU ROCK! Sometimes the best way to beat down the bully (OCD)is to laugh at it. Best wishes all!
I'm sure I have many other quirks. I have trouble remembering them all.
I'm not really a germaphobe except in certain situations. I don't drink or eat after anyone, and I don't touch dirty dishes or dirty dishwater. I don't like nasty children touching me with their slobbery hands. I am however terrified of STDs.
I have to be touched evenly on both sides of my body- crack knuckles on one hand, the other hands knuckles are getting cracked, kiss one cheek, you have to kiss the other, scratch one ear and I will scratch them both even if the other side isnt itchy etc etc etc ad nauseum,
When I send important emails I always check my sent messages box at least twice to make sure they have really gone through.
I hate food crumbs and dirty dishes- when I was a kid this was a HUGE issue for me bc I would panic and cry whenever I was supposed to wash the dishes- its even funnier bc I don't get easily grossed out at all by anything else- blood/puke/poo/pee are not that bad ( I work in healthcare lol) but even now after years of meds and CBT I hate hate hate dirty dishes and can only tolerate them long enough to load the dishwaher.
I also touch fabrics in stores- when I was a little kid I would full-out rub them on my face but now I can restrict myself to just touching which is good.
I always tap the top of cans 4 times before I pop them open and when I'm opening a bottle of snapple of something I will hit the bottom to make the "pop" noise and then switch hands and do it again.
there are soooo many this thread is hilarious
Isn't it weird how we all just have "our thing" where it makes sense to us but not really to anyone else?
It just has to *feel* right.
I get very anxious and panicky if I can't do something until it feels right.
And I agree with pretty much all the stuff
