Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a psychiatric disorder, more specifically, an anxiety disorder. OCD is manifested in a variety of forms, but is most commonly characterized by a subject's obsessive (repetitive, distressing, intrusive) thoughts and related compulsions (tasks or rituals) which attempt to neutralize the obsessions.
Does anyone else with contamination obsessions not only fear that they are contaminated but dwell on fears that those close to them are as well? I have these thoughts about my husband and my baby. Sometimes I watch my husband wash his hands after they have been dirtied just to make sure he does a good enough job. With my baby I have to write down every time I give her a bath or else my doubting kicks in and I worry I didn't do a good enough job or that I didn't do it at all! It drives me crazy!

Sometimes I would listen when my family washed their hands to make sure they were washing for a long enough time.

Definitely. I don't like touching people, even people that I am close to. If my mom is making dinner I always make sure she washes her hands; Sometimes, I get paranoid and think she lied about doing it. I also get agitated if I think someone has used my shampoo, soap, body wash or even touched a similar personal item. Washing my hands is probably the most prominent manifestation of my anxiety/OCD.

Oh this is exactly how I am. In my job I deal with a lot of people and I am always scared of brushing up against someone's hand etc. I wash my hands a lot when I'm at work because of this but I am trying really hard to cut down and I've been doing fairly well lately. But it is very hard. It's a horrible phobia/ocd.

Me too! It makes my mom mad because I would watch everything she does and if she sneezes or coughs I'll move away. It may sound crazy but I can feel the germs crawling on my skin.

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus).
