Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) Support Group
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a psychiatric disorder, more specifically, an anxiety disorder. OCD is manifested in a variety of forms, but is most commonly characterized by a subject's obsessive (repetitive, distressing, intrusive) thoughts and related compulsions (tasks or rituals) which attempt to neutralize the obsessions.
I don't know what would help you, I don't know why I stopped When the warts went away that stopped too. I'm sorry you can't stop. On any medication?
I was put on Remeron in the psychiatric hospital I was committed to in 2011. It seemed to put a halt to any skin picking or obsessions.
I have been on several medications mostly for depression, and anxiety. The OCD, the doctors oddly did not address although it was a huge problem for me.
I used to tire of the constant trying of medications suggested so I would reject them. I was told to go on Abilify once and said no way am I going to take that.
I stopped Remeron because I felt it served it's purpose and I was ready to face, finally my issues, it was maybe not a sound
decision, I mean I was advised not to stop, and at the time questioned my state of mind, was I doing the right thing?
But I felt it was the right choice for me. My family was worried when I stopped but so far so good.
Are the scars a problem? I wonder if a dermatologist may have some advice, I have received some good advice from a sympathetic dermatologist who had some knowledge of skin picking. I wish you some relief.
I wish that I had a solution to share... while meds and therapy have helped greatly in the calming of my obsessive thoughts, I am still unable to shake the skin picking and hair plucking. I, too, have scars from the picking, and although I constantly worry that my partner is put off by the state of my skin where I tend to focus, I just can't brain myself to stop. :(
Ive been with my partner fpr 3 years, he has tattoos. I like them, but to me they are also scars. I don't want tattoos as I don't want anymore scars. Thats just personal preference though (:
I do recall doing it though. Sympathy for you, and your partner, they are sticking around, right? xx
JayJayy, good to see you have been with your partner for 3 years, that must be a comfort even if there is disagreements or struggle because it does help to not have to be a you vs the world type deal with feeling like an outcast. Someone obviously is in your corner or really really likes you! Love, too. Whatever form or shape it is, it's helpful. xx
