Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) Support Group
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a psychiatric disorder, more specifically, an anxiety disorder. OCD is manifested in a variety of forms, but is most commonly characterized by a subject's obsessive (repetitive, distressing, intrusive) thoughts and related compulsions (tasks or rituals) which attempt to neutralize the obsessions.
Welcome to our support group! We are glad to have you here. I think you will find this group to be understanding, compassionate, and extremely supportive. I know I certainly have.
If you wouldn't mind sharing, what sorts of OCD obsessions and compulsions do you struggle with in general? I know mine have changed over the years from mostly contamination to harm/scrupulosity obsessions. It seems very common for OCD to "morph" like this.
I hope you have a wonderful day, and once again, welcome!!!
My obsession is from mild to moderate scrupulosity.
Thank you for sharing more about your struggles with OCD. It sounds like your obsessions and compulsions cause you distress and take up a lot of your time. Have you found anything to help at all? What sorts of things have you tried?
I also have scripulosity sometimes in the form of guily over obsessive bad or what I refer to off thoughts. I am a Christian and therefore, I feel guilty. However, I give those thoughts little cadence. With intrusive thoughts, I use a combination of therapies that work to calm my mind. I use parts the following Christian therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Cognative Behavior Therapy. So you could say I use a dab of this and a dab of that. However, most therapies I directly connect with Christianity. I have written a Christian article titled "Turn Off Times Into a Good Day." Another treatment I use is meditation and rest. Simply laying down on my bed, meditating, and resting my mind has overcame obsessive thoughts, urges towards compulsions, and a lot of anxiety. My compulsions come in the form of checking and using my computer for over searching subjects that are not realistic on the Internet, which cause me anxiety.
